    Slack said the board had held "very general discussions" about closing LSU campuses outside Baton Rouge. Slack said the discussions are very preliminary and in the context of having to deliver the same education with less available money.

    "We're going to have to do something," Slack said. But any decision won't come for a long time, he said.

    Research Tech-LSUS merger being discussed again


      With hurricane recovery hammering the state budget, a possible merger involving Louisiana Tech University, LSU-Shreveport and LSU Health Sciences Center could be back on the table.

    The idea is part of a report from a consultant hired by the LSU Board of Supervisors.

    Mike Woods of Shreveport, an LSUS graduate and a member of the University of Louisiana System board, believes a merger would enhance higher education in this part of the state.
