Does anyone know if the move was just for the spring game?

I think moving it is a mistake. Alot more people are on Rienhart than Stadium Dr.

I'm hoping it was just for the spring game. There weren't any porta potties on the student side so I figure they didn't think anybody would be tailgating on that side or something. If it is a change I'm highl disappointed.

Sometimes you jump forward to test the effect and if it is not what you want you jump back or maybe go in between

I am just glad that we aren't doing the same thing for over a quarter of a century that had been done!!!!As far as your post ---damn good and let's keep the intense love of our university and use the great minds that some on here posses to keep the MO going!!!!

I thought it was a huge success and so did the coaches and players. There were a few players videoing with their phones and they were extremely impressed. This is something Coach Hud wants to do and I feel that it will work. People just need to get on board and accept a change every once in a while (i know change is difficult to most). This was as intense of a pre-game cajun walk that I've seen and it was for a Spring Game. IMO, I really liked it and hope more people jump on board!!

Hud's quote was something like "We are doing it for the Spring game to train the FANS how we want it done it the fall".

He liked the idea of the players being closer to the fans with a higher intensity atmosphere than the casual stroll where the fans stand behind the curb and the players have to zig zag back and forth across the street for the occasional high five.

I liked it. The players were loving it. They were smiling/laughin/cuttin up with the people. Previously, it seemed like they were more embarrased that they had to do that...and they were usually all calm like they just walked out of a funeral.

HUD wants it that way, so fans are closer to team. He also said he didn't want cops involved...and as you could tell cops were everywhere and very much in the way, they didn't know where to go once the buses stopped. They don't need police escort anyways.... But from what I heard from coach Saturday morning, he didn't want a big police brigade.

I am in favor of the Cajun Walk being held, period, no matter the route.

With that being said, fans were standing on the curbs for previous Cajun Walks by design, the police escort moved them back. There is an easy solution to that problem; do like the Spring Game, don't use an escort to move the fans back.

The Spring Game was a special situation where there was general admission and parking. In the fall (unless parking lots are relocated) there will be many more fans along the old route as that is along tailgating spots the entire route. The new route goes half the route between two parking lots, as well as disrupting one of the main entry points to Cajun Field.

If this will be the new route, there will need to be some major modifications needed for parking and entry.

It is hard for me to believe the new route will attract more fans during the walk, or more per sq. ft. available route space.

But I will be wherever the route is!

I like the old route too, but I like having 1 line and NO police.

I think that is precisely what HUD is going for. If the route is half the length....and the same fans show up.........density doubled. (which Saturday, density was probably quadrupled...at least)

But some could argue, with good reason, to start the walk halfway down Reinhardt as opposed to were they were starting it near Bertrand, and get the same effect.

I missed the pre-game activities, can someone tell me what they did differently?

No marching band or cheerleaders, team walked down the road between stadium/parking lot. Coach had red stripe painted down middle of road, team walks the line. Fans on both sides of team. Coach wants every player to high-five all the fans, as opposed to half team split in 2 like previous years. Pep band played in front of baseball field entrance and that was it...

I love the cajun walk. I liked it with one line and the people on each side. Why I disagree is the route. The old route walked has tailgates on both sides and is where most of the people are. I am not about change but maybe someone gave Hud bad advise on the route.

He feels that it would be a really good atmosphere. He mentioned the trees lining the road in full bloom with the stadium in the background....etc. Hud will make this thing work..

Well, the marching band doesn't exist in the spring. The people in the band there were made up of members of the symphonic and concert bands, most of them do marching band in the fall, but not all of them. I know a bunch of people in band that had to change plans because they were told late. I dunno if the cheerleaders and Jazz were told short notice too, of if it was just the director that told them late. If it was the athletic department that got the word out short notice, that may have been the reason for the change.

Did the Cajun Walk begin opposite the stadium or near Congress? I was at the intersection with Reinhardt and didn't see where they started.

If they do start opposite the stadium where there are trees and the stadium then that would at least eliminate a problem with cars trying to enter and park; they should still be able to do that without a delay. But the section starting opposite the stadium is still going in between two parking lots, not two lanes of taligaters. I hope people will line up there.

I think it's alot better with the trees and also walking along the stadium. Once everyone knows where it's at and what time it will work just fine. It will also get more people hanging out by the pregame band partying and getting fired up. The walk is for the fans but it also should be for the players. I think this new way will be alot more electric atmosphere. Plus if you have not noticed, HUD wants his prints all over this program, he wants to lay all the ground work himself which I think is great. He has done everything right so far, I don't see why people think this is any different. Trust the man, he knows what he is doing.
