Adrenaline is a huge factor in this also. Don't think he will be able to maintain 96 throughout the entire season. Probably a 90-93 guy touching mid to upper a handful of times a season. But, he was throwing considerably harder against FAU this weekend when he came in the game at the beginning with less control and I think that's the adrenaline of his first conference home appearance against a strong hitting ball club. Also, against Rice on the road with a lead could cause Kellog to have a little extra adrenaline and have a little extra on his ball.

Aroldis Chapman averaged over 101 MPH in his first two appearances, but ended the year in the mid 99 average MPH.

STILL, if he's hitting 96 every now and then as a freshman it's going to be scary to see what Kellog can do over the course of a 3 year career if he gets the correct weight training and stays healthy. Someone needed to step up with the early departure of Dayton and Zach graduating. Looks like a few people have!

Buddy.... U know more than most, but 96??? I doubt that gun is accurate over there. It's probably a fast gun. I wasn't there, so I don't know what it looked like. I also don't know how accurate the gun is at the tigue. I find it to be probably 2 mph off. Regarless of what it may be...I could care less. I just want him to keep getting outs!

The Reckling gun was accurate when I was there a couple of years ago. I spent a couple of innings with some scouts and they had their own guns (mostly Stalker).

Consistent with what Buddy was saying ... keep in mind that Kellogg only hit 96 on a couple of pitches. As reported to me, he was mostly 91->93 with a 94 here and there.

The Moore Field gun is more than 2 mph slow.

96 is a lot and everytime I've seen him he looked like he was throwing 90+, but not 96 until I saw him Saturday. When he came in the game the first batter he was registering 88-89 on the gun at our field. He was all over the place and dialed it back 3 MPH to throw strikes again, but I would bet if there were a scouts gun there he would have hit 94 or 95 during that first batter.

Our gun is so inconsistent and I've only seen it accurate one weekend since I've been watching from the stands, but when someone is throwing well I usually go behind the scouts and compare. Our gun is usually at minimum 5 MPH slow.

Hicks has the best fastball on the team though. He's 90-91 with great run. That's what separates the top 10 draft picks that throw 90 from the rest is that movement or "life" on their fastball. Kellog and Hicks should be throwing together everyday so hopefully he can pick that up too!

Man---I just would love to see the face of a LSU dude when they ask him in his 2 games against the Tigers how many runs he gave up in 18 innings---ZERO---Please check me on this but I am pretty sure it is a fact!!!
