UL Baseball Wascom Leads White to 3-1 Series Lead (game 5 1pm)

Blake Wascom held the Red team to just four hits over seven innings as the White team posted a 6-1 win in Game 4 of the Fall World Series. A five-run third inning was all the White team needed as they upped their series lead to 3-1. Game 5 is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday and the White team can wrap up the series with a victory.

A strong outing by starting pitcher Blake Wascom paced the White team as they knocked off the Red team by a final score of 6-1 Friday evening at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field in Game 4 of UL Baseball's 16th annual Fall World Series.

The win gives the White team a commanding 3-1 lead in the series.

The White team will have a chance to clinch the series in Game 5 which is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The game is scheduled for seven innings. If the Red team can extend the series with a win, Game 6 would be played shortly after the conclusion of Game 5, and is also scheduled for seven innings.

The junior right-hander Wascom (1-0) threw a stellar seven innings, giving up just one run, on four hits, while striking out four and walking just one. The Walker native threw just 83 pitches in the longest outing by a pitcher thus far in the 2010 Fall World Series.

Dustin Ardoin (0-1) was tagged with the loss for the Red team after going three innings and giving up five runs, despite allowing just two hits.

After Ardoin retired the side in order in the first and second innings, the White team got all the runs they needed in the top of the third, as they tallied five on just two hits.

Michael Strentz drew a lead-off walk before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Michael Faul. Strentz would come home in the next at bat after stealing third and advancing on an errant throw by Red team catcher Chris Sinclair.

A walk, a single and a hit batter loaded the bases for Mike Petello who then drew a bases-loaded walk which forced home the second run of the inning. After a Matt Goulas sacrifice fly, Jordan Bourque drove in two more runs for White on a two-out single to left field and White's lead was 5-0.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Red team tagged Wascom with what would be his only run of the game as Trask Switzenberg hit a solo home run deep to left field to get the Red team within four runs. A one-out double by Jordan Poirrier following the homer looked promising for the Red team, but back-to-back outs ended their chances to further close the gap.

Chase Compton widened the White team's lead back to five runs with a RBI-double in the top of the fifth frame, scoring Bourque who reached earlier on a walk.

That was all the scoring Cajuns fans at "The Tigue" would see as both bullpens were strong to close out the game.

The White team had to pull Wascom after the seventh inning due to a pitch limit, but the side-armed Manning Duhon came in to throw two innings of no-hit baseball to preserve the win.
