    Default First Post/ Geaux Cajuns!!!

I'm a long time fan, but have never posted before. I thought tonight would be a good time to start. First off, thank you Cajuns for getting the W this afternoon. Today was a must win and our guys rose to the occasion. My first question is, did we call off the dogs in the second half? The only reason I ask is that we seemed to open up the playbook a lot in the first half and a little in the second then we seemed to go conservative in the later half of the game, so much so to where we might have lost it at the end. Second, how good is this team? Do you think the performance today after the disappointment at UGA bodes well for the future? Finally, I'm re watching the CST game cast, and these announcers seem like they have no idea who is playing (nor can pronounce the names correctly). All complaining aside, great win for the good guys. Despite a few hiccups, i think the Cajuns got it done and we should take the week off and get ready to give it to MTSU. If we win that, can't wait to see what happens afterwards.

I think the players started to relax a bit, and though you do want to go conservative after a huge lead on OFFENSE, defense you want to continue to harass the opposing team and make them wish they never visited Cajun Field. Thats why it is stated that DEFENSE wins Championships.

I have to just call that "bush league." Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't Rickey been notorious for pulling the dogs off? Granted, I don't want to beat a team when they are down (it is appropriate when you consider it's college football and it has happened to us many times) It seems like it nearly came back to bite us in the @$$ tonight. We seem to have a problem sealing games when they come down to the second half. Western Kentucky was an ugly win last year when we were in control after the first half. FIU was thorn in our side that no one wants to relive. We were up big after A State last year and the nearly upset us.

That's not nice, RaginScotsman has some legit questions, besides we need all the first time posters we can get.

You would be correct. Ricky has a soft heart and didn't want to embarrass his friend Steve Roberts, because he might lose his job at the end of the year. Offensively and defensively we called the dogs off and it showed.

I would give the staff an A for the first half and a D for the 2nd half.

There is no doubt in my mind that the Coaching staff allowed ASU back into the game. I didn't like it one bit. You could tell after Masson had that run for a TD, our team went FLAT, but I blame the coaching staff totally because it started with the play calling. That attitude, lack of killer instinct, is just lame.

I'm happy with the win, but not happy with the score. The lines, both offensive and defensive, did a good job I thought.

    Geaux UL.

I agree. The Cajuns can't call off the dogs with anyone. ASU proved they had some quick strike potential. We started playing not to lose right at the start of the second half and that was not good ball coaching. ASU could have scored on that final drive and taken that game. That was too freaking close! Bustle is in no position to be friendly to Steve Roberts or anyone else this year, if that is what it was. Bustle is always looking for an excuse to play conservatively.

There were a lot of positives in the first half. We should have scored two more times, however. We still shoot ourselves in the foot on play calling and execution when we get in striking distance. Oh, and you cannot throw to Ladarius too many times IMO.

Opposing coaches are also aware of the Bustle approach to try to sit on any type lead...Quite obvious!....History does make believers!....I like the Cajun win!

As far as the late game situation goes, had one of the two late field goals been made, this would not even be a discussion topic. Personally, I would have preferred running the ball than the three third down pass attempts that went incomplete. Much more clock would have run off with that plan. I don't think it was as much a matter of the coaching staff getting conservative as the kids themselves losing focus.

Thought same thing. Clock could have been our friend but incomplete passes hurt. I wondered if Blaine is still hurting. With the 31- 7 lead, I thought that Blaine might come in and run run run. But then Coaches don't seem to listen to me much as I yell instructions.

We shouldn't have had to attempt the field goals. ASU was on the student side the entire game. They got more of the heat than anyone in Cajun Field. The second half should have been much more dominating by the Cajuns. I'm sure few want to do anything but praise the win... but I don't analyze the past for the past's sake. I want Bustle and company to have a killer instinct and maul teams when they have them on the ropes this year. It will make for an extra victory down the road.

I respect your point about the late game run versus pass, but I doubt "the kids" were deciding what to do at that point. I also wasn't impressed with what caused us to sputter up to the field goal attempts you were referring. We had ASU beat down and we almost let a wounded animal come back to life. And it was the coaching staffs' decisions. I like the system and the players right now... I just want our coaching staff to guarantee this year's group all the success they can gather.

Hopefully, we'll clean some things up heading into MT. That is an extremely important game. They will not allow us to back down, make any mistakes, and not pay for it.

I like the players but the system is somewhat obsolete with our personnel IMO. However, I'm glad to see they tweaked it going into this past week. The let the RB's attempt to get to the outside and changed it up a bit. Defensively, they played really well but just had some errors that can be easily fixed. We must have missed 3 sacks where we had the QB and let him get out, namely a failed safety/sack in their endzone where Buchanan had Aplin in his grasp. Buchanan also had him in his grasp on that horrible pass interference call against Richard Brooks that was a joke. We also lost discipline in the deep secondary on a couple of plays that allowed big plays but those are things that will get better as some of these guys play more and the year goes on. Gerami had one error that resulted on one of those deep balls but he also played really well. He's athletic and pressured the QB a couple of times and made some nice hits. That kid is going to be a player.

Also, one of the FG's never should have been attempted as it was a 49 yarder into the wind. When they were lining up, I thought for sure we were going to fake it as I couldn't see how we thought Albrecht was going to make it.

After watching Marshall blow a lead on WVU and lose the game in OT, I was scared UL might do the same thing. I hope someone asks Bustle about that at the QB Club meeting. Our defensive backfield is supposed to be the best in the SBC and we gave up almost 500 yds. passing to Ark State who had no running game. I'm glad we have a week off to heal and to correct whatever we were doing wrong in the second half.

HC, we were missing 2 DB's in this game. Potentially our best cover corner and maybe the best in the league in Dwight "Bill" Bentley and also Safety Lemarcus Gibson, not to mention a pretty good covering LB in Grant Fleming. Overall I think the D played pretty good considering 3 playmakers were not on the field. But you could tell we were missing Bentley during this game.
