    Default North Texas/CUSA

Please go to the Delphi Board, AUSTINALUM/CUSA.
He is so right, we are going to be left standing along. We desperately need to wake someone up at Louisiana. There should be 20,000+ fans screaming about getting Louisiana into a conference. I just don't get it. I just can't believe were not talking, crying, screaming about this, its life or death for this University. We've been existing with this self-imposed death penalty for so long. Look at SMU, they still can't get their heads above water. Someone please get the ball rolling ASAP. North Texas and LA Tech are trying to move forward, what are we doing here, Please someone HELP US.
    IS ANYBODY HOME?

Yes, there is someone at home, and the University is talking to CUSA.

The one thing Ive noticed is that it seems like La Tech and UNT are almost trying to hard. Its one thing to want to get in, but to shove yer school down their throat, their just gonna scoff at ya. Were doing it the right way it appears...behind the scenes.

P.S.If you dont remember, I believe there was little if any buzz about SMU/Tulsa/Rice getting an Invite last time, and a whole lot of buzz about La Tech getten an invite, so truly, you NEVER know.

CR, Nelson Schexnayder has contacted the CUSA Commissioner and extended an invitation to him and their Consultant to visit the University to see first hand what we have to offer in the way of facilities, athletic programs, academics, student life, etc. Will this come to pass? Hopefully, it will. The Commish did not give him a yes or a no. I am not getting my hopes up, but at the same time I tend to believe Nelson has piqued their curiosity and interest in our University.

You know alot of schools have press releases like the UNT one to help create additional noise to get their name out in the media. The effects of these actions are only temporary. UNT is the leader in football in the Sunbelt. However, UL is going to catch them quickly. Their basketball program is decent but I feel we have a dominant mid-major program with good name recognition. We have a baseball program that has made a name for itself by going to the College World Series, UNT has no baseball program. Our softball program is excellent and has made several trips to the College World Series. I believe we have a better upside and better fit the bill for what C-USA is looking for. No matter how many bells and whistles a university rings the ultimate decision comes down to C-USA and I believe that they are looking at the big picture rather than just a small portion of it.

RC77, you must have heard Schexnayder's words. Those are almost verbatim of what he expressed. Of course, I am prejudiced, but I believe that if Commish and his Consultant visited the University and saw what we presently have to offer, the athletic facilities for the future, academics, and the Acadiana area they would lean towards us. However, there are a lot of politics that take place from the in place CUSA membership. A big hurdle for us would be Tulane, I feel. They make no bones about their perceived superiority over us. Even though it is the wrong mentality, they will wield a big stick in who is allowed to join.

CE. Where in the world did you hear that? When I said politics I meant within the CUSA membership.

I heard that she had said she would help Tech get if if she could. Who else can she influence besides Tulane? I mean she has not been able to keep one job in the state so far. She has zero clout with the republican governor of Ms. Texas schools don't want us or Tech, and again she has zero clout with Jeb Bush of Fl, or the republican governor of OK.

I have zero evidence that she has not put in a good word for us with Tulane, only that I heard public reports that she had for Tech.

CE, I surely missed something along the way! I have not heard one thing about kkb supporting Tech. Could be trure. I just have not heard that. KKB has, in my opinion, "bigger fish to fry" than worrying about who does or does not become a CUSA member.

    cajuncharlie,
I didn't here Nelson's comments I'm just looking at things from the perspective of a college student and someone who follows UL athletics. We are building towards better things right now. We will get our chance to shine I firmly believe. As for Tulane I believe that they are not as powerful of a voice in C-USA seeing as their athletic programs were on the rocks a few months ago.
BTW, How is Eunice? I'm a Mamou native myself.

You muct clairvoyant, because I heard Nelson and your thoughts are expressed almost verbatim to his.
I don't know the innerworkings of CUSA. I would imagine that a member could blackball the entry of someone wanting in. That is pure speculation on my part. Their is a lot of egos involved in this subject matter. Hopefully, the matter will be resolved to the satisfaction of everyone.
I am originally from Church Point, finished SLI in '54, went into the USAF, retired in '74, returned to LA, and live 6 miles SE of Eunice. All of my six children, with the exception of one, attended and graduated (the youngest one is due to graduate this Spring) from UL, and the "exception" graduated from MCNeese. That makes for some lively discourse during football season.
Hey, I won't hold it against you if you are fromBig Mamou. All of us carry some baggage. :>))))

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . .

Hey RC77, one Mamou native to another, I'll help carry some of that baggage.
Yes I am definitly outnumbered when going back to my hometown because it bleeds purple & gold besides the home school green colors. The relatives usually start the ribbing but I fight back a galant fight for our vermilion Cajuns.

What do we do if CUSA adds UNT, and Tech offers us the WAC? I say take it in a heartbeat. Don't believe me?

cajuncharlie: Actually we are the Green Demons and being from Mamou isn't so bad, I do value what I learned from my high school, I feel I got a better education their than some from larger schools get.

DrySwamp: You know I never understood how so many from Mamou bleed purple and gold. Alot of those that do bleed p&g have never been on LSU's campus other than for athletic events. The reason I chose USL in 1995 when I first started and UL in 2001 when I decided to finally work towrds finishing my degree was the atmosphere that UL has. The campus is beautiful, the people are friendly, the ladies are beautiful(my wife is a UL grad), and the education a student receives in great.

Random Thoughts: I think if C-USA invites UNT and not LA Tech then I think Tech will come to the SunBelt. If Tech stays in the WAC their athletic program will eventually suffer even more from the travel costs. Remember the WAC is adding Utah St. and New Mexico St. which will not make Tech's travel woes any better. If UL were to go to the WAC we would have to face theses rising travel costs as well.

RC, I almost had it correct. I did that impulsively, Had I stopped and thought for a moment I would have remembered it was Demons rather than Devils. Hey, being retired military I can always say it was close enought for government work." As we say in CP, "I was just passing you a little trash" about being from Mamou. Un petite farce est pas mauvais.
