Hearing that he is a finalist for the job at Morehead State, per our local drivetime sports radio.
Good luck coach !
If it's what he wants I hope he gets it.
He has worked in the State of Kentucky before and if they hire him Morehead State won't regret it.
University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns the #1 Sports Choice in Acadiana.
What he wants is to come back as UL's coach. But, since we are keeping Rogers and will endure another year of losing, he needs to move on. I think UL is making a mistake and not releasing Rogers and bringing Coach Hall back, but that is just my opinion. I certainly wish him the best in wherever he ends up.
I've seen you post a similar comment WRT Coach Hall before. Do you actually "KNOW" this, or are you simply speculating that he wants to come back to UL? Seems to me that he has decided to move on; meaning his time in Lafayette is history......one not to be repeated.
Kelley has had several conversations with many different people here in Lafayette. It is not a secret that he and Meredith want to come back here and raise their children where they were born. David & Scott are aware of this. But David has chosen to honor the last year of Errol's contract and Kelley is not going to wait, and he's not going to come back and clean up the program again.
Think about this: Errol has one more year on his contract. If we look to replace him after next season, what type of candidate can we look forward to replacing him? The three best candidates to replace Kelley were an inexperienced assistant college coach, a high school coach and a former head college coach who was let go from a Southland Conference job. If that's the best we can get when the program is coming off an NCAA at-large bid, what are we going to get when the program is back in the doldrums?
I'm of the opinion that you shouldn't hire back someone that left you. It's like taking back your ex-wife. She left you for what she thought was something better, so why should you take her back. I wish the Hall's nothing but the best in the future, but it won't be at UL.
You are exactly right. I personally spoke with Coach Hall on several occassions. He got a lucrative buy-out of a bad situation in Cincinnati and we could have gotten him mid-year this past season for $0 to finish the year. He and his wife do want to return to UL. What was promised to him at Cincinnati changed with a new AD and a move to a BCS school, despite the financial advantages, did not work out. He wants to return here and finish out his coaching, but needs to do something and can't wait around forever for UL to do something. It is now obvious that UL will honor the final year of Rogers contract which will only serve to further damage a program Coach Hall built up. Of course, there is no guarantee what UL will do in another year. So, he has to take care of himself and his family.
I remember reading a post here that Rogers might be asked to return as an Asst. Coach at Miss State. Anything to that rumor? It would likely be a good move for Rogers now because he will be fired next year after another losing season. And, we will have lost Coach Hall. Having another winning, NCAA bound program when Conference Realignment comes around would not hurt UL. But, I'm afraid it won't happen.
Meredith and I appreciate all the support from OUR CAJUN FRIENDS AND FAMILY. Let me address the Morehead issue. I TALKED TO MOREHEAD. I AM NOT GOING TO COACH AT MOREHEAD PERIOD. DEAD ISSUE. THEY HIRED TOM HODGE FROM MIDDLE TENNESSEE. WHOEVER POSTED THIS SHOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS INFO. THANKS AND GO CAJUNS.

Appreciate the insight. I totally understand Coach Hall not wanting to wait another year, so great that he has a chance to coach again soon. The only exception I take to your comments is WRT this program. If he "would" have been willing to take over the program this year (assuming we let Errol go); then he would be cleaning up a mess anyway - - whether this year or next; it's still a mess now.
As for the other comment (from Rebel) about not wanting him back (comparison to divorce, etc); I don't have a problem in that regard. This is a business, not a marriage. He took a job (my assumption only) that he thought to be a step up the ladder, better money for he and his family. Sometimes you realize the job you had just may have been the one meant for you; but you dont' see if at first. If he truely wanted to be back here and "commit" to this university (as the university should to him if he came back), then I'd be happy for that arrangement.
P.S. Coach - I see that you are commenting on this thread, and am fully aware that you visit here often. So I fully understand any "no comment" WRT this position. Good luck wherever you land.

For the record for some of those people who want to know certain things. Here we go.
1. I had 265,000 k X 5 YEARS GUARENTEED reasons to take the Cincinnati job (and Meredith couldn't work because Aubrey was coming).
2. Meredith and I each PAID OUR BUYOUTS TO THE UNIVERSITY.
3. David Walker tried to keep us there and offered us a fair contract. David Walker did everything he could to keep us there. The U.C. Contract was a LIFE CHANGER. IT WAS NOTHING AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA. WE LOVED OUR TIME THERE. Did I make a mistake by leaving ? PROBABLY.
4. There was no Scott Farmer, I met him one time on a job interview at Troy State University. I really don't know him.
5. When we left the TEAM had just finished playing in the NCAA TOURNEY AS AN AT-LARGE BID. This was the first team that we coached at U.L. that had every player on it that we coached. FACT.
6. We wish Erroll and the Ladies nothing but the best. Louisiana has a special place in our hearts (Brynley and Jordyn were both born there). They will always be Cajuns (hope you people down there will always claim them).
7. We still wear our Ragin Cajun Stuff Proudly (ALWAYS WILL).
8. I STILL TALK TO NELSON. He hired me. I really like Nelson.
9. Meredith and I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY LIKE DAVID WALKER.
If you have more questions please pass them on. We are not hiding anything and we are not trying to get anybodys job. We are Fans on Ragin Pagin Just like the most of you. We are planning a trip soon to Lafayette.

Man Coach I just find it amazing since the time I started playing at UL in '63 about the coaches that have come through the UL family and have for various reasons just wanted to stay in Lafayette-----Coach Faulk. went to pro ball for a year and returned--Blanco, Sibille, Roy, Shipley, Cox, Tamm, Robertson, Banna, Stokley, ---Surely many more---When you think about it , what is the deal about Lafayette????? You came after the oil bust, but people lost their job and stayed and some lost everything except Lafayette----I think we need to think outside the box and maybe get ya'll hooked up for a year in some private business and see how the chips fall---All these exes have done quite well----What say you????
Thank you, Coach.
I think this thread ought to be locked out of respect for the privacy of the Hall family.
As of now, we do not have a vacancy in WBB. While I may share the same views as most of you that it is unfortunate that we don't, it is what it is.
Coach Hall shouldn't have to come hear to tell us all of this. I'm glad he did. I'm just sorry that he felt he had to.
Please lock this thread.
There's plenty of time to see what the future holds.

Boomer,
I LOVE the idea of a temporary "out of coaching scenerio" to get the Halls back to Lafayette. Great idea! The hammer WILL fall on Rogers next year or they can close the program. Bet the farm and grand kids on that.
When hiring people they HAVE to like you and these folks fit the bill better than ANY scenerio we have ever seen athletically at UL.
The real deal will be impossible if something can't be done. THEY are the REAL deal.
Bringing them back to a place they like can be easy if someone will just ask.
Talk up that idea. With your contacts you HAVE to know someone who is in need of a true ASSET, albeit temporary.
I just heard it on local sportstalk radio. I did know Hodges was up for the job, as well.
I assume Matt Mitchell at UK lended at helping hand to Hodges.
Hope to see you back coaching the Lady Cajuns one day. You are thought of very highly in Murfreesboro.
Best of luck to you and yours. Where do you guys live nowadays ?
Boomer,
You know me. You have been in my office. I am a simple Man. Meredith and I were treated great by everbody down there. We like Lafayette as well as anywhere we have ever lived. I didn't come there for the money. Nelson and I had a handshake for the first 3 plus years we worked there. Meredith didn't get paid til the last 9 months we were there. We just LOVE LAFAYETTE. We have heard through the grapvine that a lot of things have changed (hopefully for the good). We are just Cajun Fans. Don't know if we are ever going to comeback or not. Probably not our decision.
We are in Myrtle Beach and we just FOUND 69 SHARKS TEETH ON THE BEACH TODAY. Life is good.
For the Record, I TURNED DOWN A HEAD COACHING JOB IN COLLEGE LAST NIGHT. We will be very careful where we work next, I can promise you that.
Good Luck and maybe we can make a FOOTBALL GAME THERE THIS FALL. ZEE says the food is OK. Just OK around the Krew Area. I WILL BE THE JUDGE OF THAT. LOL.
