UL Basketball Cajuns hit the road against Musketeers

CINCINNATI They faced a hostile environment 11 days ago, and came within a couple of minutes of upsetting a nationally-ranked Dayton team in front of 12,055 supportive fans.

The University of Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun basketball squad will face a similar task this afternoon when the 3-2 Cajuns take on Xavier's Musketeers in the Cintas Center.

Today's 1 p.m. (CST) game was listed as a sellout in the 10,250-seat center, but Xavier officials announced Wednesday that 300 unclaimed student section tickets had become available for public sale.

Those $19 tickets were gone by noon Thursday.

"That's the kind of environment you want to play in," said Cajun senior swingman Laurie Bridges. "That makes it fun."

LOUISIANA La. -- Expect a quicker University of Louisiana basketball team today when the Cajuns visit Xavier, Ohio.

The recent addition of guard Dwayne Mitchell plus two frontcourt players will allow ULL to play more transition basketball, said ULL coach Jessie Evans.

ULL (3-2) plays the Musketeers (4-3) at 1 p.m. at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati with a team featuring a different personality.

When the Cajuns lost (66-59) at Dayton on Dec. 9, ULL brought nine players and were without forwards Cedric and Chris Williams as well as Mitchell, who has scored 20 points and delivered seven dunks in two games.

ULL starting point guard Antoine Landry said the Cajuns have transformed their attack since adding the three players to their roster last week.

"We can run more aggressively now and substitute better, mainly because we have more players," Landry said. "Over the last two games we have become more of a running team. When we were at Datyon, we had to play a lot of zone and pace ourselves.
