    Default Bowl payouts

SOURCE: The Sun Belt will receive $17.2 million from the College Football Playoff, the third-highest amount for G5 conferences. That amount is roughly $2 million higher than C-USA ($15.6 million) and more than $3 million higher than the MAC ($14 million). https://t.co/eBFu48BYuu

Do the 5 bowl teams get made whole before the money is split?

And divided up over fewer teams (14-10). That works out to $1.72M per team for the Belt and $1.114M per team for CUSA.

The highest per team payout of the group. Nice.

It absolutely is, the window for UL and CUSA was 5 years ago and has since past. Now there are programs I would still rather be aligned with from a fan standpoint, but it's too late now for us to move to CUSA.

It makes zero sense to move to anything other than the AAC or a new merger. We need to get our house in order and start to make a run at consecutive 10 win seasons and win some championships.

......For all the abuse the man took, Got to give SOME credit to Karl Benson....have no idea about whether he should have taken us to a higher level, but here we sit above where I think many thought we would never have been.......btw, we are a lot closer in ranking to the top G5 than Cusa is to us....this is a big. Surprise to me!!!!

    Agree, except the Florida twins.

CUSA is bottom heavy and can't shed those teams off. When the shake up happens, SBC will have better leverage because the conference will have less luggage to unload.

MACtion is on death watch, fallen off the table since the NIU/WMU football runs a few years ago.

THIS. Stop worring about C-USA. As a conference, they're in our rearview mirror.

"The Sun Belt has received the third-highest G5 payout in two of the past three seasons, according to the source."

And we finished this year where we did with an incredibly weak Western Division. That's going to change soon.

The Belt is pretty lean and mean right now. I prefer our structure over having to feed 4 additional mouths.

Of course, that is why I stated the window for C-USA was 5 years ago. Our focus is on the highest level of the G5, the AAC. We had better get our house in order soon, especially in Football and MBB.

Football is still 2 years away from where we need to be IMO. MBB is lightyears away with this current staff.

This is great news. Who'd have thought? Plus there's some extra dough coming in from the new Conference Championship game? The 10 team football conference financial model works well in G5. Whenever the next realignment comes, it's likely to feel like playing musical chairs. It won't be orderly, maybe more like trying to catch a wave. Some might say like threading a needle. Like Cajun T referenced in earlier post, Administration leaders need to be in state of readiness to move quickly. Consider how much change occurred in past 10 years then extrapolate 10 years into the future. Will be quite a ride.

Boomer deserves a lot of credit....for years, he preached that CUSA was not as good and he was constantly schit on on this site for not "getting" that perception is reality...well here we are years later and the tide has turned....props to you, Boomer

Well again, that window has passed. But I find it ironic that one of the first questions asked by our new AD when he was hired, was why hadn't UL joined C-USA. Everyone outside of Lafayette ask the same thing. Who knows what the current SBC lineup would be today had that happen.
