The bouncing after the catch was genius

    Default Trick play:

If they did not fall for it the receiver could have been killed: He did not show a fair catch so he his still in play.

North Texas punt returner will probably get drilled next time he calls for a fair catch. Can't take unfair advantage of a rule to protect a punt returner. Like a QB faking going out of bounds but then turns up the sideline.

If he doesn't get hurt, he will have won twice.

No matter what, he is in every opponents head.

It kind of looked like he waved his left hand, but not over his head. But the bounce is what really sold it.

What unfair advantage did he take?

He did not signal for a fair catch; he ran the risk of being decapitated if Arkansas' coverage team is alert. His body language said "fair catch", but the rule is very specific about signalling, and he did not signal.

That play will never work for him again, but it was both very courageous and brilliantly executed.

Agreed. Hog fans were whining it was somehow underhanded. Hey dudes, if the whistle hasn't blown, don't stop playing the game. Pretty simple. I tip my hat to the kid. Well-executed and just about a back-breaker for the Hogs.

I wonder...if the ark player had realized the fake, and drilled him, would he have been flagged for too hard of a hit on a defenseless player. The hesitancy to lay the wood due to the new emphasis on eliminating hard hits aided the punt returner in his fakery....

I imagine 10 years ago he would have not survived that attempt....

Would've been funny if the ref got fooled too and blew the whistle right after he caught the ball... 😜

They probably advised the officiating crew of the play. That would not have been good.

BTW, nice whipping the Mean Green put on the piggies.

All the two defensive players would have needed to do was to grab the guy and hold him till the whistle blew. If he struggled, toss him to the ground.

Either the refs weren't fooled, or as someone mentioned, they'd been advised of the play. He won't try that trick again, but if he gets creamed after calling for a fair catch, then they'll just tack on the yardage and as Turbine said, he'll win again.
