Default Remember the name Matt Canada?

As the circumstances around the death of offensive lineman Jordan McNair continue to be investigated with the cause of death determined to be heatstroke after struggling during a spring workout ESPN reported that Maryland put trainers Wes Robinson, Rick Court, and Steve Nordwall on administrative leave. And now, athletic director Damon Evans announced that head coach DJ Durkin has been placed on leave as well.

In the meantime, offensive coordinator Matt Canada will be the interim head coach. The 46-year-old has been the OC at Northern Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, NC State and Pitt before working at the position at LSU last season.

The verbal abuse is not a part of the death. They are claiming that the staff failed in its responsibility to monitor the health of its athletes and ignored signs of struggle before he collapsed in the heat. The verbal abuse stuff is surfacing now from current and former players.

If they were dog cursing him and embarrassing him to push through like his teammates....I'd say verbal abuse could have been a factor.

thats a big if...but why such delay ininvestigating with or without the others coming forward? and shouldnt all schools have the same level,of scrutiny?

one could almost question the entire "offseason conditioning programs" to begin with. i find it hard to believe all the teams stay on campus all summer and not one mention of plays (x's and o's) or strategy or technique/ position instruction ever.

It was not listed in the accounts given by the other athletes, or at least it was not a part of the article that came out about it so you are presuming. As of now, the verbal abuse and the ignorance of player health are separate.

Espn has an outstanding report of the incident, and a scathing expose on the culture of intimidation and repercussions at maryland

Because in 2003, and earlier than that when the death occurred, the 24 hour non-stop update journalism trend hadn't quite yet taken over ESPN. They were still about highlights and stats reporting mostly.

Eraste was a good guy. His brother, Robert, walked on at UL. He became a doctor who also now serves a mean plate lunch.

    Good family all-around.

thanks. good point, i was by no means trying to defend maryland, just want to see all investigated the same..... in some cases just the "abuse" is enough to fire, so why wait until a death occurs?
are you sure it is 24 hour non-stop or selective? some arrests still seem uninvestigated?

Their dad was a doctor too. Good doctor, very well respected urologist.
