You should have been able to discern that I'm using a greater body of examples to show desiring of a position is not enough. Nowhere did I say Ike Taylor was playing out of position, just not in his best position.

Do you think for one second Bustle came in and said assign these players whatever position they want? No.

Gary Bartel asked for Ivan Talor to switch to Cornerback. Gary Bartel deserves the credit for putting Ike Taylor in the position to succeed.

ps Bustle needed someone to backup Jerome Coleman. Ike was better suited elsewhere.

If Ike didn't want to be a CB he wouldn't have succeeded at it. Ike Taylor deserves the credit for his success. Just like Dion Ray, you can move him wherever you want but if he doesn't want to be there he isn't going to produce. It ultimately comes down to what the player wants. There are several discussions about position changes that you never hear about because the player doesn't want. Football isn't the type of game you can succeed being half hearted about your position. Bartel May have gone to bustle on behalf of Ike. Coaches get too much credit/blame on things like this IMO. Anyway, Todd Lott got plenty of playing time at the end of the season because he started producing. Hopefully he can carry the last 3 months of production into next spring.

Like jllanclos said, Ike had a long NFL career, but it never would have happened as a Baldwin running back.

So, there is no way Todd Lott's skill set was properly used last year. ... Even if he did say all the right things at the end.

Not to hijack the thread too much, but prior to Ike's senior season the starting cornerbacks were Charles Tillman (2nd round pick) and Brad Franklin (7th round pick by Panthers). When Franklin left, it opened up the spot for Ike. Coach Gary Bartel actually moved Ike to CB before Bustle ever came on board. (Coach Bartel was on both staffs)

You have no way of knowing how good he could have been at RB in Bustles offense which produced some great RB's. Majority of time position changes are out of necessity. The coaches have a need of depth at another position or a player sees more opportunity to play at another position. Ike also hadn't played football in 2 years when he finally got on the field so i would imagine there was some rust in that first year. Luckily for him it worked out.
Fwiw, in those 2 years, Ike put on a show at RB in practice against the starting defense. The defensive coaches knew what kind of athlete he was

*That starting defense had Tillman, Franklin and Kyries Hebert (still killing it in the CFL) in the secondary.

As a junior Ike had a 91 yard game on 11 carries. 2nd leading rusher on the team in 2001.

    Ike loved the spotlight.

I agree, it was Bartel who convinced everyone of the move.

ps Ike and Peanut were seniors on the same team, and went in the same draft.

    Same topic.

Utilizing talent vs (hopefully not) squashing talent.

Todd hit 6 in the HR Derby. That was 2nd most in the first round, but because they did head to head matchups, he was eliminated by the guy who hit 7.

Love the sound coming off his bat when he squares it up

Talbot doesn't like all that leg kick he's doing.

Wonder what Jake Wells will think of this.

Lotts power is incredible. The sound of the wood bat says it all.

Definitely. He is leaving a lot of load and power on the table. He is getting only minimal hip and shoulder separation and he is not getting all the way into his back hip. Once someone gets him comfortable loading his back hip and not back foot/knee and getting some separation in his hips and shoulders, he will be tearing the cover off.

What we have seen from Lott so far has been natural strength. When he gets the technique implanted in him, he will be a monster.

Let Todd do what he did this Summer. He's a natural.

Trying to change him will bear the same fruit as last year.

I agree. He will be better off making adjustments in the offseason once he is a professional. He should do what is comfortable until then.
