His deal is for one year. That tells me that they still hope to bring Rondo back. Elfrid will still play lots of minutes as Rondo is aging and saves his energy for the playoffs. If they did not think Rondo was coming back, they could have signed him to a longer term deal.

Yep. He's got to rest so he can be Playoff Rondo .

Rondo will be back plus they want to take Jrue off the ball a little more and they've lacked good depth at the PG spot for years. Elfrid will help them as he's better defensively than Rondo and obviously younger so he will eat up a lot of minutes for him.

I admittedly did not watch a lot of Suns or Magic games, but I thought Elfrid was pretty poor on defending the pick and roll when I saw him play.
Hopefully Rondo and Jrue can teach him the finer points of the position. I can't wait to see him in a Pels uniform.

why does everyone here think he was a good defender. i love elfrid, but he is a below average defender (for a starter at least)

I don't know, maybe because he won the Lefty Dreisell college defensive player of the year award.

Because he established himself as a defender (besides passer) his first year in the NBA, when many were touting him for Rookie of The Year.

He really hasnt been a great NBA defender though. Hopefully moving here helps that area of his play

He hasn't played with anywhere near the talent at any point in his career that he will play with in New Orleans. He'll get plenty of minutes splitting time with Rondo (assuming we bring him back), and Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis will make anyone look better defensively. We're going to be very well equipped for his style as a slash/penetrate and pass-first point guard, especially if we can add another outside shooter.

That's because he is not an elite athlete. There are too many quards that are quicker off the dribble than he is and he has trouble against them on any given night.
