This is definitely a place where one can get a good "vibe" of how fans feel with current events within the athletic programs of the university. I wouldn't say that this is the end game of the fanbase, but it's definitely a great substitute.

Sometimes, we get our share of knuckleheads but for the most part, it's not that bad. Sure, some of it gets out of line when it gets personal. But I would like to think that a lot of criticism that goes on here are usually rooted from legitimate concerns.

Most of the time, you are correct. Exceptions always exist.

We all want excellence. No one wants mediocrity. But I'm not getting how we have the power to hold coaches accountable.

Athletic Directors and administrators do that. We just beech a lot.
Great post. Many on here like to use this "hold em accountable" and I too don't know what that means. We have to hold Robe "accountable".. what exactly does that mean... A bunch of message board posters ranting like they really are somebody? I actually hate the expression and prefer "results" to "accountability". This is a results business. Yes I am going to say it.... 20+ years of mostly big results buys you some down years. I don't know a thing about Talbot's abilities. i do know the results point to his no longer being around. But I leave that decision to Robe. I'm in the "Robe is here for how ever long he wants to be" camp but i can see if no changes are made and the results are not improved, an active and forward looking AD like Maggart will have a sit down. I don't think a message board full of "hold em accountable" ranters will force Maggart's hand. He is also in a results business and has no past ties... What a wonderful thing that is.

I say we trust the process and the people who manage the process.... Still this is fun and an ever morning before work distraction enjoying all the experts opine.

I'm curious as to how many people that post here on Ragin Pagin really know each other or know who the person(s) posting really are.

I can say that I only know personally about 7 to 10 people who post here regularly. I "think" I know who about 5 or 6 others are, but cannot be positive about that.

What about the rest of you?

Speaking of those down years....what coach gets us into those down years every time only to turn things around? Why do we have to have that cycle of down years to prove he can turn things around? At what point is enough enough? This program should be beyond the point of needing to go through down years so that the same coach who got us into those down years can turn things around.

It's not a process! A process builds upon the success of prior years. We are in a downward trend! Screw that process!

Pipe down ragin pagers. We don't need you keyboard warriors to raise concerns. All is well all the time.

If we didn't raise hell, construction would still be delayed on Russo and Farmer would still be AD. If we didn't speak with our wallets, Hudspeth would still be our football coach. Hold those in power accountable.

So you are saying it's a different coach that gets into these down years and a different coach that turns things around? Looks like the same man in the dugout to me during all of those seasons.

Some people are ok with the status quo as long as they have their close parking spot and tailgate social hour.

In case you haven't noticed, the VAST majority (not every single case) of G5's have cyclical success, if they have success at all.

Few win titles in any sport every single year. Few make post season play every single year. As Robe said, there are schools that would LOVE to have won 35 and 34 games the last two seasons. But here that isn't the goal. The bar is where it is because Robe, his coaches and his players have set the bar high. And, none of us need to remind Robe we are not willing to lower the bar. And, that's because HE is not willing to lower the bar.

But the cycle won't go away. It just doesn't happen that way. Some cycles last longer than others. But the cycle is there.

I think Robe's unwillingness to lower the bar is what makes (at least for me) this "holding him accountable" thing kind of silly.

You never have to hold a coach accountable when he has a higher standard. He does that himself, without help from the fan base.

And, that's what makes Robe, Robe.

You're getting too hung up on a word.

When paying customers voice their displeasure, they are assisting superiors in holding owners, managers, coaches accountable.

When AA buddies are not happy with each other's behavior or habit changes, they begin by communicating their disapproval. Then they take it up with the group. If the person refuses to change their ways, they are invited to join another AA group, as to not further effect the current cohesive (or remedy a disfunctional) group.

So he sets the bar, doesn't meet said bar, doesn't make changes to help him meet said bar, but we should keep quiet about that? Still silent on JT....thinks that you make you go hmmmmmm.

What do we realistically think of this program? Are we just another G5 baseball program? Or do we want to be considered a player on the national scene?

We pump resources into this program that other G5 programs are envious of. Hell, some P5 schools wish they had what we have. But we should just consider ourselves another G5 program that goes through cycles. Screw that. We are better than that.

The only thing we capitalized on after 2014 was a $16,000,000 renovation. No sustained success. We are right back to 2011 and 2012 as far as offensive production. We have wasted potential postseason chances with some of the best pitchers to ever come through here (Harris, Leger, Lee, Moore, Schmidt, etc). Where is this program headed? Down, up, the same level?

Don't give me the "well Robe has gotten us out of this before" spiel. I want to see us not get this program to this point.

PS- good to have you posting again BOP. It's been too long.

Agree... Just a thing about the buzzword... I hear it in business all the time... You have to hold them accountable.... I tell people all the time, using a&m@br as an example.... Coach O can be the most accountable SOB on the planet but if he goes 5-6 he is out... This is a results oriented bidness...

Just a personal point of preference and I like to have some fun with it
