You throw a Batty or a Perrin (two freshman with ERAs over 5) against any Wednesday opponent and you have just significantly increased the odds you take a loss ... and probably spend important innings from your best bullpen arms. This is a new season for everyone and these are hungry opponents with a new lease on life.

Thanks Brian. I see where MAT was coming from. He's wants some firepower reserved for the trophy game. But I'm in your camp on not taking early risks. We aren't armed well enough to look past anyone... and the hill is way too steep for us not getting through either of the first 2 games.

If we HAVE to win the tournament to make a regional, MAT is right on.

But Brian being in the "just get to Sunday" crowd makes me think that an at large bid is probable should we make the finals. And in that case, you gotta go with your horses in games 1 & 2.

Nobody can possibly be right on until
You see how the tournament plays out and matchups are set. We got some work to do no matter what

At the moment, there's a few European weather models that look bad for the end of the week and the weekend. Any meteorologist out there want to throw out odds?

I don't recall Robe ever doing it. Yuge opportunity for 2nd guessing if we lose game 1.

The only right answer is the one that works. Starting our third or fourth starter in the first game means they will lineup against the number one or two starter of another team. At least by waiting, our third or fourth starter Will match up against a fourth or fifth starter. This may not work, but probably has the best odds of winning.

MATs way could also work, but the probability is lower.

I put it at 65% and 45%, respectively.

Certainly playing our best ball at the right time. Here's the numbers just over the last 10 games (from start of Coastal series on). The pitching numbers are skewed by the Sunday game vs Coastal, but hitting-wise, this team is finishing stronger than a lot of our teams. They're not tops in a lot of categories bc 2013 absolutely mashed at the end, but many numbers are in the top half.

2003. As the #2 seed, Tony eschewed Andy Gros in favor of Corey Coles. We lost. I don't think he's done it since.

Here's the numbers for games 1-56 for comparison. Amazing that at game 40, we were hitting .222 and raised it 21 points over the last 16 games.

Another factor is weather. While we obviously hope we do not have another repeat of last season (weather forcing single elimination) ... and the sport turf field provides every chance of getting the games in ... the only guarantee throughout the tournament is the game that you are presently playing.
