    Doesn't matter.

In a few years, we will be playing in a different conference tourney.

Also, why are we still giving the autobid to a jumbo conference tourney winner when that format is no longer used anywhere in the NCAA post season?

Montgomery is a nice enough city, but if you haven't been there, you probably don't know it. I'd like to know what all went into the decision.
And at least the basketball tournament is in a tourist city like New Orleans. And they're even struggling to get people to go. What's there to do in Montgomery? It's in the middle of nowhere. At least put it somewhere where fans can visit sites or attractions when their teams aren't playing.

Does this mean that general admission (2500) has no seats? And if they do have seats, why not say the stadium seats 7,000?
Looks like the GA seats are just a grass area down the first base line into RF

What does it really matter. Does anyone really think there will be a demand for seating in Montgomery in excess of 4500 for any tournament game?

When you visited, what were your likes and dislikes of the city?

Montgomery's downtown revitalization is simply a side consideration and is less important than attendance revenue.
Once again, there are many on this board who do some assuming.

Biloxi has CUSA and were not interested.

Pensacola was interested and that was the league's first choice. But there were dates that Pensacola refused to clear and that ruled them out.

It came down to Montgomery and Jackson. Montgomery, in the opinion of the AD's, had more going for it.

I agree having something like the Pensacola beaches and the Biloxi casinos would have added some impetus. But it didn't work out.

I've never been. I'll admit it.

At the same time, I've yet to have ONE person tell me that they visited Montgomery for a vacation trip.

Let's see if someone like you is willing to change that by attending.

Been there a couple of times. I really like the Robert Trent Jones golf courses. Also, had some wonderful BBQ. Zoo was OK for a city it's size. Other than it being farther that Biloxi and Pensacola, it is a good spot boasting a top notch stadium with plenty of reasonably priced hotels and restaurants.
I just love how people put down places they have never been to. It is called an uniformed opinion.

    Good points.

Also, looking at it on the map, I'm not sure what the mileage limit for taking a bus would be.

For Montgomery, just about all but the 2 TX teams can take a bus, with Coastal, Little Rock and App State being on the fringe (450-500 miles)

Pensacola, you get to about 4 teams that are over 600 miles (TX teams, App, Coastal)

Jackson would have 1 more western team in range, but then 3 eastern teams would be out, so you'd be at 4 outside of 600 miles

So geographically, it's probably the most central site, though my pick would have been Pensacola if available. Just wish it wasn't locked in for 5 years, but I understand the need for commitment

Thanks for the insight. I think Montgomery was the right choice over Jackson.

If you knew the explanation for the final decision, perhaps you could have included that in your previous post? Excluding information often leads to assumptions.

You should go. The ballpark is situated downtown on the river and has several restaurants and bars within walking distance. It's a better set up than anything the SBC schools can offer.

Guessing seats are seats and GA is on an outfield berm type location. Great for cardboard sliding during the inevitable, interminable rain delays. Since there will never be a home game, there should be plenty of good seats available.

We have basically built a new stadium so that we could bid for Regionals, Super Regionals and Conference Tournaments. I understand the logistics of having a centralized location for the conference tournament, but that eliminates our opportunity to host any Conference Tournaments in the near future after this season.

I really don't care what the SEC or CUSA is doing, unless there is an opportunity to increase revenue for the conference. I have not seen the numbers, so that questions remains. My question to Dr. Maggard will be did he support, or vote for moving the SBC Baseball Tournament to a permanent site over hosting for his fans?

I agree with you, having to pick a location Pensacola would be it if the schedule could be worked out. The background noise about Big Boy Pants, is simply that! The Sun Belt Conference doesn't nothing like a Big Boy Conference.

Not knocking Montgomery, I'm knocking the same venue and remembering how some were clamoring for a city besides New Orleans by the time UL was there for it's 3rd straight bowl.

I thought then and now that the desire to move was silly since the rotating opponents made it a unique bowl experience every single time.

Can't say the same for a conference baseball tournament when you've played the teams 6-times that year alone and the cast of characters never changes.

    Montgomery will get old, fast.
