Thread: One-and-Done

  1. UL Basketball One-and-Done

The panel that NCAA basketball asked to fix its sport after a federal probe revealed rampant bribery and corruption issued its recommendations for reforming the game on Wednesday.

In a 60-page report, the Commission on College Basketball told the NCAA it should consider eliminating the one-and-done rule, banning cheating coaches for life and allowing players to return to school if they don't get drafted into the NBA.

Yeah, like any of that will happen.

Regarding the one and done, this recommendation is meaningless. That is an NBA rule. Even if the commissioner and owners want to change it, it would require approval of the NBA Players Association via an update to their collective bargaining agreement.

If the NCAA mandated a three year scholarship that was non transferrable for the three years (even if the player leaves) you might have one and done's having to sign for walk ons.

I just read the article and that is actually a recommendation. Another proposal is to make all freshman ineligible. Ms. Rice says that if the NBA does not end the one and done the NCAA will find a way to do it in indirect fashion. If freshmen were ineligible you would see many pro prospects go straight to the "G" League. Losing a scholarship for three years may also make schools less likely to offer those scholarships for players likely to go pro after one year. There may be more to this than my original post indicated.

What ever happened with the "death penalty"? I seem to remember that being a fairly significant penalty back in the 70's!!!!! 😡😡😡

How about the NCAA revise some of its antiquated rules regarding agents and individual financial status? I don't know if I'm a big fan of paying players because that is a very slippery slope but I definitely am in favor of letting them benefit at some point from profits the university and NCAA make off of their likenesses.

Much of the big TV money should go into a fund for football and basketball players benefits after college. Medical, additional college, home down payments. Too much is going to the coaches and administrators. But not salary for student athletes.
