We are definitely suffering somewhat from a depleted roster.
Start with 34
Less Gunner 33
Now less Monica, Armstrong and spears, 30
I believe Hanie is suffering from a back injury 29
How low can we go?
As was mentioned on another thread by someone not named me but who I agree with ... I don't think Gunner should be mentioned in any player loss calculations.
If he had been healthy, he would have been gone. If he had been healthy, his MLB demands would have been quickly met.
Losing Handsome Monica, now that hurts, that hurts now.

Agreed. I only included Gunner in the above analysis because putting him on the 35 man roster makes one spot non-productive.
I have said before that what Gunners injury gave us was an opportinity to have him in 2019.
I don't think, under any circumstance that it is credible to argue that Gunners injury has anything to do whatsoever to our 2018 woes, save giving up that roster spot to take him along with the team for 2018, and then, since we have only carried 34 to date, there was obviously no one else available that is not on the 35 that this coaching staff believed could be helping this team, otherwise they would be on the roster.
Mentioning Gunner as an excuse for 2018 is a complete red hearing.
Hopefully we can get him the redshirt. It would be good to have him catching Gunner next year plus he deserves a chance to get back into form as a pro prospect as he was before he came here. He needs to show the scouts he can play.
I'm somewhat glad he is out for the year. The medical redshirt should go through and we will get him back for a strong campaign next year. Not that this season is a wash by any means, but this team is what it is. I would rather have him come back strong next year with Gunner and the rest of the returning cast, maybe either Hogan or Lee will return, and hopefully a new hitting coach and we make a big run. Also, I really hope this is the last season we have to watch McKinnon behind the plate.
I think McKinnon has done a good job Being thrown in the first game
If Monica comes back next year McKinnon at backup will be to our advantage

McKinnon by all accounts is a good dude but on field he is a massive liability on this team. Add .100 to his current batting average and only then it's approaching mediocre. He is a very easy out. FAR Too easy at our level.
I find it incredibly disappointing we dont have a 3rd option at catcher that can be trusted to hit better than McKinnon's anemic .150.... Dude cant touch a curve and is late on Fastballs....AND....No one on bench or Freshman being redshirted is better than this?
We really don't have a true DH option hitting above the Mendoza line, why would you expect to have a third catcher who could.
Looks like we need to try real hard to learn to be happy with what we have this year and hope and pray that the strong suites out way the week ones in any particular game and we can get on a win streak that way - J1M, 27 in a row!!!!!!!!!
