I agree the one bid for the mid major leagues is killing interest in the sport. All the focus on the NCAA tournament also hurts interest in many P5 schools until conference tournament time. Simple solution is that all schools less than 0.500 in their conference should be ineligible for an at large.

P5 and G5 classification killed NCAA basketball regular season.

Teams playing for title tomorrow have starting talent as good as most mid majors in the country. Better than ours in fact. Our advantage was our depth. Health issues prevented us from having that today. I am also still hurting, not for me or us here but for the guys on team. I am sure staff had lots od consoling to do this evening.

There is no doubt they are hurting more than any of us as fans. Bryce, Stove, Bartley and a few others are the main reason I came to the games this season. The wins were just icing on the cake for me, but watching those guys embrace the transfers and make this team better was something special to watch. They are all completely unselfish.

Every one of those goals has been attained over the last 10 year period by MTSU. No valid reason we should be worse.
    I concur.
Expecting an NCAA win once every 5 years, is that too much to ask? We need our players to be better and our coaching to be better. Or, we need to get better ones. Why can't we aspire to better expectations? We should win more often than any other team in this conference. We have the facilities and the resources. The only thing lacking is the results.

I'm upset now but looking back this has been a special season. 1 out of 8 isn't good. or even mediocre. But I would say our program is in a good place to be competitive and truly compete for championships.
Until very very recently, marlin was very vocal about "only thing that matters is 3 games in March" it's not a discussion, he is on record.

Bob is right. It all comes down to 3 games in March and we only won one. That isn't going to change anytime soon. But it's ignorant to suggest that he should be fired.
Bobby hasn't passed a single test in 2017/18.

Now when Middle gets that unavailable at large because they did pass those important tests.

I seem to remember Marlin and staff doing very well in recruiting and having some players coming in next season who could make an immediate impact.

I know it's early but do we expect to have a drop off in talent next season or better talent?

I understand that talent isn't everything and one of the main reasons this team was successful this season was due to how well they played together. My question is strictly focused on talent Marlin is losing/gaining for next season.

On paper the guys coming in are his most talented group of HS guys he has brought in. Injury to best one however was a blow. Also, no one knows if they will have the intangibles the current group of seniors had.

I would be very surprised if Middle Tennessee receives an at large bid.

Certainly going to be tough replacing Bryce - the on-floor leader and backbone of this team. Bartley's defense and scoring will be missed. Stove's leadership and effort will be missed. I expect big things from Russell. He needs to get more confidence and shoot more. I'd like to see Miller stay down low and dish out some assists sometimes. Gant, Marquetti, and Stroman will obviously be back and play big roles... J. Davis has shown flashes... PJ Hardy has potential. Kobe Julien was going to be a big part of next year... but the ACL may cause him to redshirt. What about K. Evans? Other newcomers that will contribute next year? Now, if we could land Jordan Brown, then we are cooking with grease.

Evans will not be back. Of the other incoming guys, the PG from Houston named Wesley will supposedly help us with our depth there.

And they're freshman. Not expecting anything close to the Washington, Bartley, Stove. We're six deep in juniors and seniors this year. This was the year.

Would you have had the patience middle Tennessee had with Kermit Davis? In his first 9 years with Middle he didn't have a season with 20+ wins. Now since 2011 he has only 1 season with less than 24 wins. Cajun fans would have been running him out of town year 5.

Don't get me wrong, I'll be pulling for the team to do well in the tourney, but F the NIT. It could just as well be a pay for play tournament as far as I'm concerned. Wake me up in October.

Unlike the Big Fish, Davis has been scheduling big boy games since he first arrived at Middle.

Again, it's not about winning 20 games necessarily.

In those 9 years Davis didn't have a post season trip and never won conference. I don't care who you schedule if you aren't winning the games that matter.

I want to ditch the 2 non D1 games and have a better schedule but it doesn't change my point. If you are using middle as your unicorn then we are ahead of their building process.

I agree with the sub .500 at-large rule. It should make spots available to teams like this year's Cajuns... and it would make the NIT more "interesting"... like it used to be.
