I have heard coaches say a tough part of their job is to "de-recruit" kids once they get on campus. Too many of these kids are not living in reality with most believing they will be a pro. Therefore many have a view of themselves that is overly inflated. Of course it is good to have dreams but an alternate plan is something too many lack. Of course recruiting is important but recruiting rankings are not. Someone who knows more about this than most of us is BasinBear and he agrees with that perspective.
College Basketball is not oblivious to the same problems. I don't think Social Media has damaged the sport as much as AAU Basketball and All-Star Travel Teams.

I absolutely agree with you and have commented on it several times. The fans, boosters, family members and money created this monster and wonder why athletes act like they are above the rules and many are head cases..well that's how they are treated starting at 14 and 15 years old.

Signees don't take place till 2\7...what we have is commitments from quite a few 3 and a 4 star or two thrown in for good measure...pay attention, we're having a solid recruiting period...

I wouldn't say that; it looks pretty solid, especially since they've been on the recruiting trail less than a month. We've just lost a couple guys that committed to Napier early (like Malcolm McGee) so that takes a little sheen off it. I'd say we've got a solid class shaping up in year 1 with hopes that next year and beyond start to become amazing classes.

It is probably worse in basketball since one guy can make such an impact.

The class will not be that good. You can tell by the offer lists of the kids we have committed. No use to sugar coat it. However, this staff started very late in a new era of the "early signing period". With that being said, next year will be totally different and if Emmit Gooden signs next Wednesday that will show everyone the potential this staff has with a full year to recruit. Be patient.

I'd be shocked if Gooden came here. I think he's Arkansas bound

Yeah, our coaching staff not only started late, but no one has seen the kind of product they'll put on the field either. Have a bang-up, exciting year this year, their first out of the gate, and everyone will see a huge difference at this time next year.

All of these coaches were out on the road recruiting before they got here. It's not like their first day recruiting was their hire date here. Hud and his staff's best class was the first one. We won't know for sure for a couple years anyway but i would put my money on looking back in a couple years as this class having a huge impact as far as laying the foundation for success.

This is the only year all of our coaches won't meet players as a coach from the sunbelt.
