But you're right in that for all practical and realistic scenarios we're a one bid league. I don't use that because it's an excuse for weak scheduling and mediocre seasons.
This league is really really bad this year. I'm not sure what our RPI would be if we would win out and lose in the championship game but it still wouldn't be enough to get in. Seems like mid majors are getting less and less at large teams every year. It was a few years ago a team from a pretty strong Missouri Valley went something like 30-4 with an RPI around 30 and they got left out cause they lost in the semis. Think it was Illinois St. I know our RPI is more important for seeding and not an actual at large bid but it just sucks that one slip up could cost a pretty damn good team a shot at making a post season run.

Unfortunate that Iowa and Richmond are having down years. Normally they are strong teams and you would have thought they would have helped our RPI. No way to know that when schedule was made. I still think Iowa will win some Big Ten games. I watched them at Maryland the other night and they had the lead late midway through second half before faltering. The best thing going for us now is SLU doing well in the SLC. Their win over SFA (which everyone says we should play despite them refusing to schedule us) really helps us as the Lumberjacks beat LSU.

Illinois State went 17 and 1 in their league and got left out last season. In reality, the great majority of mid major conferences are one bid leagues in today's world. The RPI is so biased in favor of the big guys it is not funny simply due to the over reliance on schedule. Still, a regular season title gets us into at least the NIT which would be a great opportunity to knock off some name teams, perhaps on our court.

Why does SFA refuse to schedule us? Old animosity during the Kaspar years and when Marlin was at SHSU?

Kasper is at Texas State now. Not sure why SFA won't play us. Their coach is in his 2nd year and may have a different view than the previous. A couple of years ago they played four non D1 home games. They preferred that to playing us home and home. Also shows trouble mid majors have in scheduling.

I'm waiting to see what our record is after next week's road trip. Yes, we won in the road, but beat possibly the worst two teams in the league. And we won at home, without Gant. On the road, it will be tougher.

What do Dayton, Virginia Tech, Baylor, Kansas State, Tulsa, VCU, North Carolina State, UCONN, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Wake Forest, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Memphis, Vandy, Cal and Georgia Tech all have in common?

None of them have an RPI as good as the Cajuns.

Wow. I would have lost that bet.

    Good thing I don't gamble.

Yes that road trip to Texas will be quite a challenge. Will be first road games since school has started up again as well. Prediction-We struggle there and criticism will abound.

Thinking we're Vegas road favorites and maybe only win the games not the spread.

Right now, both Warren Nolan and Massey Index have us both possibly losing 2 games the remainder of the regular season.

WN has us losing by 1 point to UTA on the road and has us losing by 1 point to Ga Southern on the road. The only other really close game is Ga State.

Massey has us only losing to UTA and a very close contest vs Ga Southern

    Etch now in stone.

UL had a better OOC schedule.

Looking forward till after the season ends will be telling. It will tell the strength of the Sun Belt.

How recent is this? I would have thought that NC State's RPI would have gone through the roof so to speak having just beaten Duke a couple days ago. They also have a victory over Arizona which makes it more surprising.

I'm well aware that Kaspar is at Tx St and has been for a few years now. Was asking if it was someone in the SFA athletic department (or big donor) with a long running beef with Marlin who said no to scheduling UL.
