UL Football Wingerter Hired As Director Of Football Operations

Louisiana head football coach Billy Napier announced the of Troy Wingerter as the Director of Football Operations on Thursday. Wingerter has been a member of the Ragin' Cajuns football program since 1997.

"Troy brings great knowledge and experience of not only the football program, but also the Ragin' Cajun Nation and the University of Louisiana," Napier said. "He will be pivotal for myself and our new staff as we make this transition. He is one of our own with 27 years of investment and pride in this place. I look forward to Troy, Cydra, Holden and Aiden being a part of our team, organization and Family."

Wingerter spent the last seven seasons as the Director of Football Ops for Louisiana seeing the program go to a bowl game in five of the seven years.

Wingerter started his career with Louisiana serving as tight ends coach as a graduate assistant from 1997-99.

In 2001, Wingerter coached defensive ends before serving in the role of Cajuns' tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator from 2002-10.

Wingerter mentored tight end Luke Aubrey to led the team in receptions while tight end Ladarius Green topped the team in yards in 2009. Green was one of just three underclassmen named to the Mackey Award Watch List that year.

In 2010, Green was one of just eight semifinalists for the prestigious Mackey Award, which is given to the nation's top tight end. He was a first team All-Sun Belt selection, a first team All-Louisiana pick and garnered second team All-America honors by CBSSports.com and fourth team All-America accolades by Phil Steele.

A native of New Orleans, Wingerter was a first-team All-Louisiana selection and an All-South Independent pick as a senior in 1991. He helped guide the Cajuns to three straight winning seasons during his first three years from 1987-89 and was a permanent team captain as a senior.

He was selected as a member of the all-time University of Louisiana football team as compiled by the Lafayette Daily Advertiser.

Wingerter and his wife, Cydra, have two sons, Holden and Aiden.
