UL Football Power 5 or Bust?

This is how the University of Houston is approaching it.

Their only problem is geography. By 10 not calling, AAC same, SEC not likely. PAC 12? Big XII really doesn't want another Texas team.

So, do you think if they were anywhere but Texas they would be in by now?

Maybe the PAC 12 if they decide to expand would look at CTZ teams. They feel under appreciated not having enough games in prime time. But that's just me.

Houston needs to stay in the AAC and we need to do everything possible to get into the AAC. The best chance for G5 schools wanting to be big time is creating a respectable 12-16 team super conference and banding together to compete with / against the P5 conferences. Once the playoff expands to 8, that conference G5 super conference will have opportunities to play for a championship. This is the future.

0.00001% chance with SEC or B12. It would have to be a Pac 12 expansion

    This is incredible.
    Why a P5 conference matters...
"In 2011, T.C.U. played football in the Mountain West Conference, in which it was one of the dominant teams; its athletic revenue was $17 million. By 2015, as a member of the Big 12, that number had jumped to $80 million, thanks in large part to the television money provided by the conference."

This article describes how academics and athletics can co-exist at UH.

This is true but the only way to get the invite is to smoke them in the polls year after year. The first step is going undeafeated in conference.

P5 won't be P5 after the television contracts are renewed. I'm betting 64 team breakaway in football and a reshuffling of the deck beyond. Bowl games reshuffled as playoff games in a 64 or 32 team bracket. All driven by the all mighty dollar.

Our mission is to be in the best possible position to move as far up as possible. Worst case, not to be in the lowest perceived conference.

Athletic success at a g5 school is such a fine line. While my Cougars had a very nice run in 2015 a bad hire in Applewhite is likely to set us back for awhile. Our fellow Texas schools will do their best to keep us out of a power5 conference so we have to make the best of the aac. We will continue to be a stepping stone but it sure makes the improbable wins like FSU and ou even more enjoyable. I have learned to treat our coaches and administrators as employees which is kind of sad but it is reality. It is truly a shame how college sports are such a business and the student athletes are sometimes pawns.

I watch a lot of Turner Classic Movies. I especially like the silent era. Regardless of what we think, nothing really new going on, and that includes collegiate sports. Don't feel bad about how you view coaches. It's been going on for over a century.
