Nice to see the jackets are back. Didn't we move to Louisiana for athletics? So, why put UL Lafayette on the jacket? Why not use an "L" for Louisiana and call it the L Club?

Historically the jackets had an "S"

Sweaters in the early early 1900's

Still just an "S" for the schools nickname Southwestern.

"L" for the schools nickname Louisiana would have made more sense tradition wise.

They called it inaugural, which shows they didn't do any research. And UL Lafayette shows Martin Hall got involved.

    First thing I thought, too.
I remember during the 80's, athletes wore the sweaters.
(Didnt they have "USL" on them?)
When did they actually stop "issuing" the sweaters?

    And?

With who knows how many hundreds of universities and only 26 letters in the alphabet I don't think this is an area to get cute.

The 'L' on the jacket I get... but also to want to call it the L club? that's the exact name of Refineryville's club.

I think we are tripping over our shadow here.

Virtually Every school in the country goes by the first letter of their nickname.

It was the S Club for almost 100 years. They change the name to Louisiana, it should be the L club.

Vermilion and White should be included as a differentiator.

Seems to me that is more their issue than ours. We are Louisiana and they are Louisiana State. If we want to rightly call ours the L Club which fits our name, it clearly has nothing to do with LSU's choosing to call their club the L Club. In fact the school colors and LSU on the L would distinguish theirs from ours.

Yeah, color prints have been in vogue almost a century.

We can't get out of our own way! There needs to be an L on these jackets!

I don't like it, but I don't have to wear it. The sleeves need to be white, and the letter L red trimmed in white. I don't even have to mention there's no need for the Lafayette because Louisiana is our athletic brand.

Look at how ESPN is referring to our game tonight vs Loyola:

    L-LA vs ULL

We captured Louisiana but I don't think the LA will get much traction. Too much like Los Angeles. If we are bold enough to us Louisiana, be bold enough to use ULA. We would be in great company with Georgia - UGA and Virginia - UVA. Since LA is an abbreviation for Louisiana, using ULA will be a natural acronym. Push the envelope and we will not be opposed any more than we were with Louisiana.

And while we are at it, drop UL and use L on all things like M - Michigan, A - Alabama, N - Nebraska, T - Texas. Use L on our caps, visors, helmet, and other paraphernalia. And, use L for the Louisiana Letterman's club in red and white as you suggested. The Letterman's club is athletic, so why are we using UL Lafayette?

    Louisiana
    ULA
    L

Everyone, even ESPN, will buy into that and everyone will follow.

I guarantee you Martin Hall is involved.

If Martin Hall ran General Motors every division would be a Chevrolet.
