,,,,Hey guys, been in DeRidder helping out my 96 year old father in law....I need this RP thing fixed to use my desktop......I don't think many on here have been in different coaches meetings, and this would be a very eye opening experience....first you are dealing with the biggest egos in the world, they come from different backgrounds among other differences, have all the answers regardless of knowledge (empirical or learned), they all want more input, and they all are very competitors to the the point of physical confrontation......some are very well educated and can't coach and others can't speak correct English and are great ones.....some can sell and recruit with anybody and some couldn't get a kid to come because he is so bad.....some possess extreme loyalty and others could give a rat's butt about the head coach or school......so the head guy had to balance all this and not ____ them off or hurt their feelings because his decisions.....tough job and worthy of the pay of things he has accomplished around UL.......so if you would have told me about what he has done in 7 years, I would be one happy alumnus and likewise I am disappointed so far this year......so it's Geaux Cajuns and let's see how the year plays out.....still think the problem lies with the kids that were suppose to be here and for whatever reason aren't......Cajun T or Slick could probably give us a hypothetical starting lineup of Cajuns could have been team!!!
Good to hear from you Boomer. I wish Turbine would find a fix for the "deceptive site" thingy.
I do appreciate your perspective of football coaches... you having been one. But most of everything about what they have in common... does not excuse them for failures. No one can take away what Hud did his first 4 years... oh wait... I guess the NCAA did... I digress... most Cajun fans gave and still give Hud credit for the first 4 years. But we simply do not have a good excuse... that excludes Hud... for what transpired since.
And you cannot talk about talent that isn't here... or whatever... and leave Hud out of that issue. There is a bad habit on this site of when someone complains about Hud... someone chimes in that some of the blame is on the athletes. That's the dumbest response... ever. And if and when a coach blames the athletes to the fans and media... it is insanely ludicrous.
I'm not going to forgive him because I love a player. Again what does a coach do to get a kid qualified? There are obviously things he can legally do. Recommend a tutor, recommend an ACT,SAT specialist to guide the student athletes. Picking out places they're likely to pass the exams stinks to high heaven. I've yet to hear a reasonable explanation of how Hud expected Saunders to get these kids qualified.
I no more believe in Hud's totally innocent ignorance than Rick Pitino being a victim of his rogue staffs twice.
Looks like bringing in Willis paid some immediate dividends. Lets see if it holds.
Doesn't change the fact that Hud isn't holding up his end of the bargain. He had to hold on going toe to toe with Idaho, after losing to ULM and giving up over 50 to a Tulsa team that was shlacked by Tulane.
Oh, and started the season needing a stop on a 2 point conversion to hold off Southeastern.
You can't get hurt jumping on that bandwagon, Z. It's a collection of soft pasty people that will catch you, hug you, and love you no matter what... until they see that hat you're wearing (MAGA). At that point you're going to get a giant blast of estrogen spray to the face.
You are just figuring this out? Its football, not surgery. Moving #3 back to his natural position helped. Having #8 back playing which allows a bad CB to sit the bench helps. DL being semi-disruptive helps. Is this b/c of Willis our is it because we had some favorable matchups. We will see in the coming weeks.
So we couldn't play Checkers without Willis? Lucas turned our defense around last year, but he needed Willis to tell him what to do in game 5 of our season, after Willis just glanced at some team footage and met the cast this past week? We were that stupid as a defensive coaching staff that Willis sorted out the mess in one week?
The defense played well. Who deserves that credit? Not my call. I just find attributing it to Hud's quick grab of Willis... is perhaps a bit premature. Willis could help. But to walk in on a horrendous defense... and do something without having been imbedded... doesn't actually make me feel better about UL football. It's the fact that it was never rocket science... that irritates me.
I do hope we improved on defense. Make no mistake. Our offense is potentially too good to be compromised by a terrible defense. But to hand that potential defensive unit improvement to Willis... that soon... is a little bothersome.
I think Buckley's article this morning said it best....(stealing from Jim Mora) we think we know but we do not. I tend to think we just ran into a favorable matchup, but I know as little as everyone else on this site.
On a side note, rereading some of the post on this tread is comical in light of what transpired yesterday.
....macro/micro......so much goes into just the singular analysis of grading a player to see just how well they are playing compared to what perfection could do.....take a receiver and grading his performance.......some things are only gotten from post game questioning (what was the play and why we are running it, eye projection,etc).....some things are shown on the video like alignment, stance, defense read, realignment, release, angle, speed, distance to fake, cut, distance after cut,etc etc etc!!! No statues are erected to critics but, even if he finds a few flaws, an objective look see by a knowing eye maybe along with some buddies of the profession can be literally game changers!!!
