Due to inclement weather over the past several days in Statesboro, GA, the 2017 Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championship format has been changed to single elimination. The games are scheduled for the following games and times

    Thursday
    Game 1 - 3:00pm - #10 Georgia State vs. #7 Arkansas State
    Game 2 - 6:30pm - #9 Little Rock vs. #8 Texas State

    Friday
    Game 3 - 9:00am - #6 Troy vs. #3 South Alabama
    Game 4 - 12:30pm - Round 1 Winner (highest seed) vs. #2 UTA
    Game 5 - 4:00pm - Round 1 Winner (lowest seed) vs. #1 Coastal Carolina
    Game 6 - 7:30pm - #5 Georgia Southern vs. #4 Louisiana

    Saturday
    Game 7 - 3:00pm - Game 3 Winner vs. Game 4 Winner
    Game 8 - 6:30pm - Game 5 Winner vs. Game 6 Winner

    Sunday
    Game 9 - 1:00pm - Game 7 Winner vs. Game 8 Winner

Considering field conditions, the amount of rainfall over the past few days and forecasted into the overnight hours, it was determined that the single elimination format was the only option that provided the best opportunity for the tournament to be fully completed and decided on the field.

All times are Eastern and subject to change.

It's funny because Bab was saying this morning with it being a tournament, it's not a normal Friday-Saturday-Sunday deal with the pitching staff. Now it's turned into exactly that (hopefully)

And that is less opportunity to play games (vs. GA Southern and Coastal Carolina) to increase our RPI. Probably would have been able to face at least one of them twice. Might have to win the whole thing to get in.

I was just about to say that. It'll be Gunner, Schmidt, and Harris....hopefully that is. Brian, how does this change things in regard to RPI and at large bids?

Now we get to sit around for two days waiting to play. This is about par for the course on our luck this year in baseball.

We easily have the best weekend rotation in the conference...how does this negatively impact us?

One.... everyone has a bad day and we have seen that numerous times this season. One bad start and we could be toast.

Two.... We need as many good wins as we can to help us in not only winning percentage but also wins against the Top 50.

Other teams don't have the depth that we do. A longer tournament would allow that to be displayed. Other teams weekend starters are closer to our weekend starters than their "other" starting pitchers are vs. our "other" starting pitchers. Does that make sense?

Also - remember our 2015 team came out of the losers bracket to win that one. Nobody will have that luxery this year.

Bottom line: Our bats better get hot immediately or the season will end abrutly.

    This was a Godsend.

Maximize the rotation, minimize the hitting.

The bid is ours for the taking.

How bad do we want it?

I think we have the best overall staff by a bit. But the best weekend rotation is not as clear of a debate. Our strength is, despite many grumblings of using only a few pitchers repeatedly, in our depth of the staff. Now, teams may only need 5 or 6 good pitchers to win 3 games. They can bring relievers back in a couple of the games. In a double elimination, you need your 7th and 8th guys to give quality innings, especially out of the losers bracket. Here, if you have an offensive explosion in one inning, you can take out a team that has an 8 or 9 deep staff. We're less like to do that than someone is to do it to us.

A longer tournament will also expose our hitting as suspect at best. Our chances of a championship increase exponentially with the fewer at bats.

Pretty sure at least half the conference. They like to rotate it around to make it "fair".

My choice would be to award it based on the previous years average home attendance, but that's just me.

Can someone that is in Statesboro explain the weather situation? Looking at the radar I'm seeing a huge gap in the weather that seems to be missing the area. Is the field in bad shape or did they jump the gun?
