    Default ULM getting Med School

Hearing they will make an announcement soon. This should have been in Lafayette.

    Anyone hear this?

Agreed, should have been in Lafayette but then, I guess one could argue it's a good fit with their pharmacy program.

I'd be really surprised with the state of funding for higher education that the approval of any new programs/schools would be approved.

I'm hearing it isn't an MD program, but a doctor of osteopathy. There's a private aspect to it.

If you talking about physical space, I have a couple of ideas. If you aren't going to make a River Ranch lite along Congress Street across from Cajun field, use the property on the side of University Hospital. If you have some funding, bit the bullet and buy the former Lourdes property and go with the proposed tying together the two parts of campus and build it where Lourdes was formerly located. You still have the parking garages use use at the new school plus extra campus parking within a short walk.

UL was approached several years ago for the same thing. This is a Medical school for profit. They would lease space (land) from the institution only. No curricular interaction wth ULM whereas ULM gets credit for Doctors produced.

If this is a State funded program, Louisiana is not in nearly the poor financial shape our politicians are leading us to believe! Certainly no need for new taxes!!!!!!!!

Poorly titled thread...should be "ULM leases space for a private medical school"; move on, nothing here to see.

Correct ZoomZoom! The lease may provide some income to ULM from an outside source, but it is not a medical school.

No cutting, no Rx, manipulation of body parts. Sounds a lot like chiropractors.

Not to be confused with Osteopathic physicians...who are like MDs..my son 71 is taking his boards this summer, both MD and Osteopathic. His med school has connections with Auburn, Virginia Tech, and Woffard.

Be careful, you might get a red dot for pointing out the obvious. I got one for pointing out something about Cedric Glover. No name of course.
