Situation is especially acute in basketball due to the refusal of the major schools to go on the road to play the non majors. That is not as much of a factor in baseball due to the 56 game schedule. Brian, do you know if college baseball is considering using other tools beyond the RPI in making tournament decisions going forward?
Do you mean something that supplants RPI? No rumblings of this.

RPI up to 63 after tonight's road win at Tulane, per warrennolan.com

As far as St. Peters... the good news is they can't hurt us worse than the current 0.000 (x3). It might stay there, but it won't get worse and it can only get better... ;-)

Does the NCAA selection committee ever consider odd-ball extraordinary cases like this where one series to one bad team throws off an RPI by a significant amount?

No, i mean something that is used in addition to RPI. Basketball will use three other ranking tools next year in addition to RPI. Schedule is not as big a factor in those other tools.

All in favor of the G5 I'm sure...they aren't gonna change the rules for us...we have to get better and quit making excuses.

The basketball changes supposedly will not help the larger schools. In theory it will hurt them. None of the other tools they are going to rely so heavily on schedule as RPI does. I do not recall the specifics of the new tools however. We will see next year if more mid majors receive at large bids than in the past couple of seasons. That will tell you if the new system affected change. Baseball wise, nothing new is being planned so we better figure out how to get runs in from third base with less than two outs. That major improvement will greatly help our situation.

Help mid majors and hurt power conferences?..ok Mike, keep selling that dream or maybe somebody is selling you that and you buying...I'm not. You know what helped Baseball? Our coach was tired of being mediocre and did something about it...he actually talked to every coach in our league about it...as you can see right now baseball RPI doesn't favor mid majors either. When have they ever changed anything the hurt power schools and helped mid majors? Never

I understand your skepticism regarding basketball changes. I am just repeating information from an article I read.

Little Rock games won't help too much. Looking ahead to McNeese(17) and Texas(37) next week will be tough. Need to take care of business this weekend and extend that winning streak.

LR would definitely hurt our RPI IF at home... But, I think (and hopefully Brian can confirm), the fact that road wins count as 1.3 wins in the WP portion will make up for the poor LR OWP contribution... so, as long as the Cajuns win these games, I think the LR series on the road will be a wash or maybe even help a little - of course with the overall rank highly dependent on what goes on with teams around them. I guess the Cajuns are lucky this year in that the worst RPI teams left on the schedule are on the road - LR and ULMost.

Can Gunner transfer to Saint Peters to get them a win, then come back? They'll likely only need a few runs. I'm sure they can muster something. Maybe we can contact some ex players to go there as graduate transfers for the month of May. Those peacocks need a win.
