Looks like he turned down the invite, which is puzzling to me.

---Possibly being told by an agent to not let a chance of a negative screw up the fabulous showing in the game and the pre game week at the E/W game!!!

UL Football McGuire declines Senior Bowl invite

Former UL running back Elijah McGuire has declined an invitation to play in Saturday's Senior Bowl, UL coach Mark Hudspeth said late Monday night.

Earlier Monday Hudspeth said McGuire had been selected and that he had "reported" for the prestigious college all-star game.

I can't see how declining a Senior Bowl invite is a good decision, barring injury, which was not mentioned.

That's why he has an agent, his stock is up right now and he appears to have escaped healthy...which we don't know for sure.

    He made his MVP point.

    Hard to top that.

Interested teams still have ample opportunities to evaluate him.

He just needs to be invited to combine now. Best way for him to increase his stock more

I don't think anything has been reported officially. Nothing on the official web-site. I would expect he would be. He's on a few sites identified as a 5-6 round pick. DraftDaddy has him as a top 10 senior RB.

Resting up and training for a potential combine is what he should be doing now.

It means that he and his agent have a good idea that he will be invited to the combine and that playing in the Senior Bowl will not help and could possibly hurt. I take it as a good sign for Eli's NFL future.

If it's me, I'm taking the invite. The Shrine game was nice, but the Senior Bowl is basically the NFL equivalent of a coaching convention. All the teams' staffs and GMs are in town watching practice and talking to players.

That said, I also get why he'd decline. He had a nice week and game, and as far as we know he made it out healthy. Add what will hopefully be good performances at the combine and UL Pro Day and he's done a lot to help himself. But like I said, if it's me, I'm there. I want to get in front of as many eyes as possible and show teams that I'm more than what's on film from the last 2 years.

Of course, I'm me and he's about to start an NFL career, so what do I know. I don't blame him for trusting his agent.

Last year William Jackson was in the same boat and skipped the senior bowl. It hurt him so bad he went into the first round. If you already have the impact plays on film why risk the opportunity to get hurt? Last week he proved he can make plays against touted players. Now he just has to get in shape for the combine. I am confident Elijah will do well in the league and in life.
