It would probably look more like Dan Mullen's run option. Think along the lines of Tim Tebow at Florida, Dak at Miss. St and Alex Smith at Utah.
All run based options under Mullin. Stats show they averaged 20-25 passes per game. Under HUD that may be 15-20 passes per game. More than enough to be effective if excited correctly.
I think this is what HUD wants.
According to many here, there was a big fallout/fight between Hudspeth and Johnson.
Jay didn't leave his OC position here to go back home and be the OC at a P5 program and make more money. No. He endured 4 years of complete misery under Mark Hudspeth and finally reached the breaking point and left.
The fallout/fight story is much more intriguing and it fits the narrative.
Same thing with James Willis. He also left because he hated Mark Hudspeth. Not because he was offered a position to be an asst with the Saints.
Yeah.....I can agree a trail of poop seems to follow ole Mark. From bringing in risky academic prospects, the Saunders fiasco, coordinator turnover for the last 4 years (Stewart, Willis, Smith, Johnson), the locker room situation, and the constant excuses for poor play or execution.
He needs a good OC to right the ship. I don't think Munoz is the guy he actually wanted last year. He was backed in a corner and settled.
You do realize that most of Tyrell Fenroy's touchdowns and a lot of Elijah McGuire's touchdowns came on option plays right?
The fact is that every QB that Hudspeth has played, except Haack, would have played even better in the Georgia Southern/Georgia Tech/Navy flex bone option offense. They each run their own flavor of it, but the offense Hudspeth' is desperately searching for is in that offensive stream. He just hasn't figured that out yet, or has he?
There are many more skill players willing to play at mid-majors in the right offense. The NFL is a passing league, and those with aspirations to play in the NFL want to play in an offense that highlights their talent. That's why you see team light Memphis, Houston, Boise, and others have success against the P5 programs as they have the skill players to compete. I don't think you'll get NFL caliber skill players recruiting to run the ball 50 times a game, and you won't have consistent success trying to run the ball against teams with better line/linebackers like the P5's will typically be able to recruit. I agree with you. I would never go into a season without a QB who was a legit passer, but Mark Hudspeth does not think this way. He's drifted into a Nixon/Jennings/Brandon Harris? QB dead zone. If he keeps drifting away from passing the football, I hope he drifts right into a legit flex option offense.
This.
I love me some triple option, honestly. I'd be in heaven if we recruited to that and ran that successfully here.
But the kids want a flashy, fast-paced offense. We've had recruits saying they came here specifically because of the tempo and style of offense we run. That (should) mean better athletes and more wins.
Theoretically....
Same reason we wear crazy uniforms and have trees on our basketball court. It's what the kids nowadays want.
And all I want is to win.
If we have our act together, this speculation doesn't occur.
Just hire chip Kelly as our OC lol
