I did a search on google for "louisiana.edu name reference" and this is the first link in the results: http://www.louisiana.edu/about-us/me...iversitys-name

With the way state funding versus tuition/other non-state funding ratio is going, we will be a private school eventually, and at the point, we won't have to worry about legislature.

    That would be great.

I wonder if we were proactive with the state and told them we would consider going private IF the state donated all assets to the university and allowed it to keep the University of Louisiana name in exchange for the state not having any financial burden in maintaining it. Seems like that would take a sizable financial burden off of the state. That would allow UL to set its own tuition & fees and direct its own course. By way of example, the University of Pennsylvania is a private university that is also an Ivy League school. Is it feasible?

    2. It is not on RaginCajuns.com. Shouldn't it be prominent on the athletic website as it is athletics related?
    3. How was this sent out? Was it a news release, an email, etc.? Is there any follow-up with ESPN, Fox, CBS, ABC & NBC and the SBC, etc. and, if so, who is doing that? Anyone know their responses?
    4. What is being done to further promote this?
    5. Why did Buckley not do an article about this? This is a big deal for Louisiana. The Advertiser is part of the USA Today network and owned by Gannett. It would likely get picked up by all of the Gannet papers around the country as well as USA Today.
    6. Still not seeing any impact on the Sun Belt Conference board. Yet, it refers to UALR as Little Rock. Is ULM still objecting to this within the SBC? I thought we had Bruno's OK that he would not fight it.
    7. For Georgia, their website shows "the Louisiana game", yet Game Notes shows UL Lafayette, their coach references Louisiana Lafayette, and their schedule shows UL Lafayette. Since they are using "the Louisiana game" on their website, it appears a little effort on our part would get them to use Louisiana consistently, particularly on game day. Does anyone in the athletic dept. follow-up on these things?
C'mon man. You know the answers to all these questions.

I keep trying to convince myself we aren't dealing with pee-wee league. But we are.

Shoukd someone approach the legislature and ask if lsu should have some funding withheld if they keep donna brazile in their hall of distinction, since she was found to be so unethical?

Great question, I didn't know about that example.

Would getting out from under the Legislature be called Legxit or Lexit?

Going private? I'm pretty sure that the legislature would also want a complete accounting of the value of the university properties as they stand. Purely a wild guess, two billion in land value, and improvements. What about the university property in Iberia Parish, again a huge value to add into the equations. We'd have to also as a university figure out how much does the state add to the LA budget cash flow. Even though it's way down it's still a bundle that would have to be made up somewhere.

The moment in time when we will be 100% independent of state funding mechanisms is rapidly approaching. While I don't think we will be completely private due to the property issue, we will definitely be out from under their thumb while the other state schools besides lsu will be begging for scraps.

Great times are coming for the University of Louisiana.

Any truth to rumors that this new push is already sinking?

That's what I'd like to verify. Heard that maybe the captain is deciding to turn the ship around after seeing some choppy waters.

at least he said "university of Louisiana" that's one step... and the fact that they claim to listen to us, is a good sign that this has a chance. the other networks never said that, that I know of.

Has anyone seen anything official out of any administrative office on this change? I'm certainly not questioning Jays posted tweet that began this thread. It's just that this is so important to branding for our University that I would have thought it would have been very public.
