He has been invloved in a number of things, but I can't assure you he is responsible for all of it. A good bit was people renewing their parking passes for the minimal donation. I also know he has pushed a few initiatives with the RCAF Board, only to be shot down. I give them credit for writing checks, but they take their marching orders from Martin Hall.
Yes, since 70% of those funds are earmarked for coaches salaries. Only $500K was transfered to athletics last year. With several auxiliary fees not being renewed, revenue will be hard to find unless the university makes serious changes in the marketing and branding recommendations from Alden.
Of course, with people getting laid off all over town, it is remarkable to even get close to the previous year's donations. Some of the people on here apparently do not realize how bad the oilfield has gotten. It may not ruin Lafayette's overall economy as it did in the 80s, but it certainly affects the discretionary spending of a lot of working folks. Even people who did not get laid off are facing cuts in benefits, bonuses, salaries and in some cases facing furloughs. So to raise that 2M is a truly remarkable accomplishment, and it is apparent that at least as a fundraiser, the Harris hire was a good one.
Does anyone have a link for audited 2015 RCAF numbers?
Is that even available without a FOI? This university should be in charge of classified national documents. Hilary could use them in her sieve of a campaign.
$2,000,000 should be the starting point, not the end number. Guys, the economy is soft everywhere...UL has graduates all over the world, not just South Louisiana. Given the circumstances, yes, he's done a great job of keep RCAF's head above water. However, for a school the size of UL with the alumni base available to it, one would think after 3 years of fund raising the amount should be twice that. I don't get how anyone can be satisfied with the same static results.
There are ton's of universities out there who have fund raising arms that we should copy or at least model RCAF after. And many of those schools have losing football and other sports programs in out of the way locations that raise money that dwarf the 2 million. We can't keep accepting the status quo and expect to play with the big boys....
And yet we're told that aligning our athletic marketing with IMG isn't a great idea because UL won't be able to keep all of that money...I get that, but if IMG can increase revenues by increasing the number of game/event sponsors, then there is a benefit.
Look at the list of athletic sponsors that IMG has lined up for Marshall...
