Congrats to Harris and all RCAF donors!
The thread would be irrelevant because the "meltdown" had nothing to do with Jim Harris. It had everything to do with the way a great contact was treated and people were lied to.

Getting to 90% of last years number is already a win in my book.

He has been invloved in a number of things, but I can't assure you he is responsible for all of it. A good bit was people renewing their parking passes for the minimal donation. I also know he has pushed a few initiatives with the RCAF Board, only to be shot down. I give them credit for writing checks, but they take their marching orders from Martin Hall.

Yes, since 70% of those funds are earmarked for coaches salaries. Only $500K was transfered to athletics last year. With several auxiliary fees not being renewed, revenue will be hard to find unless the university makes serious changes in the marketing and branding recommendations from Alden.

---T, at one time you posted some things that the RCAF could not do if they were separate from the U

You mentioned that you hadn't realized this

can you post those again? As I recall, all schools are subject to these regardless of their type of format!!!

Of course, with people getting laid off all over town, it is remarkable to even get close to the previous year's donations. Some of the people on here apparently do not realize how bad the oilfield has gotten. It may not ruin Lafayette's overall economy as it did in the 80s, but it certainly affects the discretionary spending of a lot of working folks. Even people who did not get laid off are facing cuts in benefits, bonuses, salaries and in some cases facing furloughs. So to raise that 2M is a truly remarkable accomplishment, and it is apparent that at least as a fundraiser, the Harris hire was a good one.

Does anyone have a link for audited 2015 RCAF numbers?

Is that even available without a FOI? This university should be in charge of classified national documents. Hilary could use them in her sieve of a campaign.

$2,000,000 should be the starting point, not the end number. Guys, the economy is soft everywhere...UL has graduates all over the world, not just South Louisiana. Given the circumstances, yes, he's done a great job of keep RCAF's head above water. However, for a school the size of UL with the alumni base available to it, one would think after 3 years of fund raising the amount should be twice that. I don't get how anyone can be satisfied with the same static results.
There are ton's of universities out there who have fund raising arms that we should copy or at least model RCAF after. And many of those schools have losing football and other sports programs in out of the way locations that raise money that dwarf the 2 million. We can't keep accepting the status quo and expect to play with the big boys....

We have NEVER had good student attendance. In any sport. What makes you think alumni will donate their hard earned money to athletics when they wouldn't even attend the games when they were free??

Unfortunately you are correct. The majority of our alumni are not very loyal ... at all.

The Lamers have less sports enthusiasm by a lot. Still they're giving to both athletics and academics. They've got hired fundraisers for that job. You can't get if you don't approach.

And yet we're told that aligning our athletic marketing with IMG isn't a great idea because UL won't be able to keep all of that money...I get that, but if IMG can increase revenues by increasing the number of game/event sponsors, then there is a benefit.

Won't work here. That's not how we operate. We must know our role and place in the community. We don't want athletics to run our university. We need to be able to control this beast.

    We are comfortable.

IMG does great work, but our guy Jones is with another marketing company that is currently working with Louisville. The are very similar, both are very good. You're singing to the choir here my friend. It's time to crap or get off the pot.

I recall it was pretty full student section in the later half of the 70's, but it may be the rum talking.

God forbid that we do something like this. They might find donors who would push some of T Joe's mafia out of the inner circle. Or even worse, who might demand accountability and results for their investment in UL.

THAT'S NOT HOW WE DO THINGS AROUND HERE!!!
