    Default Best Running Back

    Walker, Spikes, or Streeter

-Man Walker looked short at 5'8"--but man he was thick--he looked great---the other 2 on film looked good as did Walker!!!! Now do these other backs in the stable stay at rb or go to a more blocking role????

Walker did look like a beast. Kid is solid. Bernard Smith looks good. Spikes' video was incredible. Depending on how good Walker looks in spring, Im saying its Walker. Hopefully we can get Spikes a redshirt, get a year in so he can look like Walker did tonight. Streeter will help walker carry the load. Walker is our next Fenroy!!!

If Spikes redshirts he will either be injured or a bust. As we know, you need at least three backs during a given season.

Spikes is not coming here to redshirt. If he was willing to do that, he would have chosen a much larger program that offered. Make no mistake, he is coming here with the intention of playing from the outset. He already stated that he wants to bring Fenroy's records here. Robert Walker is obviously no slouch and he will be a welcomed and much needed addition. Streeter has many of the same attributes as the others but probably not quite as much speed. All three guys are built very much the same. They all weigh about the same and are all about the same height. We will likely need all three to contribute in some fashion this season.

I was also surprised at how big Walker looked. He looks like he'll be a beast.

I liked the overall size of the players we got. They look pretty big. This seems to be a good trend we are starting with recruiting football players that actually look like football players.

Robert has always had the compact frame with good muscle but he worked extremely hard in the offseason doing conditioning and weight programs where he truly got bigger and stronger. He already broke many of Fenroy's weight records and I love him because he stuck with this program even when he was ruled ineligible and could have gone somewhere else. I can't wait to watch Robert play.

Rob Walker looked tremendous from a physical standpoint. He is going to get an early run at the starting job by being here for spring drills.

Aaron Spikes is also a beast in the weight room. Prep coach says that he maxes 380 on the bench and 550 in the squat.

Kevis Streeter is older and more experienced than both of those guys. He was offered by Kentucky coming out of high school but fell short on academics. I'm expecting him to get a shot as a kick returner in the fall.

All in all, a tremendous haul in one recruiting year. Some mid-major programs are lucky to get one tailback of that caliber, let alone three in one year.

I'm going to let those guys battle it out in preseason camp and let the coaches worry about which one is the best. That's why they get paid the big bucks.

Look at this stable of backs, I know these guys have not shown a lot so far but you can go down our depth chart and see the best depth in the belt

    Spikes
    R. Walker
    Streeter
    Brooker
    Y. Walker
    Shankle

I don't think we will have to worry about having 3 backs this year......

I doubt any of these guys would have a problem getting playing time in the Belt.

Spikes won't redshirt. In his radio interview yesterday he said one of the reasons he signed here was the opportunity for significant playing time as a freshman. His goal is to break Fenroy's records. Streeter is a JUCO so he won't redshirt and Walker is a grayshirt so he won't redshirt either. Walker may have the advantage early as he will go through spring practice. I predict one of the three will emerge as a kick returner while the other two will handle most of the tailback duties. Note Yobes Walker is likely to play mostly fullback this coming season.

Competition is a very good thing. I'm sure all the RB's have read Spike's comments and think they will have some say in the role he will play on this team. I'm sure Yobes saw himself as a feature back when he signed as did these 3 guys. Hopefully they will all stay healthy and the cream will rise to the top!

If Walker becomes the fulltime FB, and one of these guys emerges as an every down back and a good one, UL will have the best backfield in the conference and on par with some of the best in the country.

One of these 3 has the potential to be a 1000 yard back and I think Yobes as a FB adds something that most teams don't have, a running FB, add either Maguire or Gauthier as a running threat and pepper in Masson throwing the ball.

    Offense looks solid to me.

Yobes is no lock at FB either. If we recall, he was not named the starter going into last year because of his inability to grasp the playbook and pass blocking assignments. I do not know what his run block abilities are but he is behind the 8 ball in pass protection especially when compared to someone like Desormeaux who is older and very consistent. Throw in Williams to that group and Yobes may not see the field a whole lot at all.

It's not exactly like he morphed into superman. He looks like he gained about 10 pounds or so but he has clearly gotten stronger as well as larger.
