So I'm assuming slab on grade is what it sounds like. They will backfill all the areas between the forms (compacting I'd guess?), form up the slab for the whole structure, and pour? What would be the typical thickness for a slab of this type?

Typically 4 to 6 inches depending on the eventual use of the floor. I would anticipate this to be a 4 inch slab. It is not structural and is a floor for foot traffic. They just need to be careful with construction loads.

So all the main support structures for the new grandstand will have to sit on the footings already poured? I would have thought the load would have required something much more substantial.

Also, these forms seem to be pretty far back from the field. I know you'll be supporting the higher portion of the grandstand as well as the multiple levels of suites/press/club areas, but wouldn't there have to be some pretty substantial forms needed closer to the field to support the lower section of the grandstand?

The grand stand foundation is on sime drilled cocrete piling. A pile cap was placed on top of the drilled piling. These were put in BEFORE the job cam was put up. The only thing we have seen is the placement of the grade beams and plumbing and other mechcanical installations. The footings you see are placed on top of the pile caps. The load path is structural steel connected to the footings by way of anchor bolts that are in the footings. The footings transfer load to the pile caps then to the drilled concrete piling.

The steel, anchor bolts, footings pile caps and piles all line up vertically.

I am sure there are footings placed closer to the field but they are too far away and we cant see them from this camera shot. I would suspect that the grand stands will be supported by a steel structure that spans from the footings we see in the camera to footings we can't see at the edge of the field. The slab they will eventually place is not structural it is a floor to walk on.

The camera they have set up has a wide angle lens on it and it makes things appear further away than they are and distorted.

Here are some pictures of the progress:

Camera Left. Look like they are finish with this section toward the club house.

Camera right toward the cooking club. Maybe another week+/- there.

Thanks Frenchie. That pretty much lines up with the time frames I've heard and the progression in the project milestones. The buildout calls for them to kind of work from the third baseline over to the first baseline. I'm going to make an assumption that two things are driving that. One logistically they need the first base side to remain open to make it easier to maneuver. Two the sooner they finish the third base side the sooner the guys can potentially get back into the clubhouse.

The press box is along the third base line also. It requires more work for interior build out.

---Just wondering why the press box would not be behind Home Plate? This has probably been asked, but is the finished product going to have the look of Tulane's with all the metal or will it be nicer---the pics/sketch sure looks nicer than Tulane's!!!

The space behind home plate is more valuable as suites than it is as a press box!!!

Because you don't give your high dollar space to non-paying customers.

Most new stadiums have the press along a sideline.

Well now (w/o Java being present you ask too much)--but I did the google deal and found photos which confirmed my thoughts---about 3 years ago I got my S-I-L to go to a game there and he was commenting how the construction was the same that he used to put up temporary structures for major golf tourneys

they install and take down and use for another one---but try to find and post!!!

Well Boomer one of two things here....either your SIL is wrong or you are going to be extremely disappointed in the new Tigue since construction will be similar. That is to say steel supports with pre-cast concrete.

Think I will be disappointed---Don't know a thing about construction but it is the same thing at Tulane as they do at the golf tourneys I have worked with Global Golf!!!

Today structures of this size are never cast in place. Labor costs are too high. You can get a better quality concrete because it is cast in a casting yard. Production can happen quicker because the weather is not a factor. The two new parking garages on campus are this type of construction.

Your SIL is wrong boomer. Nobody puts up that type of structure temporarily but it fits your agenda with trashing Tulane so go for it.

Where's the "Preparation Cam" at Fabaucher Field? I think we should have a split screen view of both fields as they move toward their epic shared roll in Cajuns Baseball history.
