Weapons designed specifically for combat have been illegal for civilians to own for the last 82 years. Just because a modern sporting rifle resembles a military weapon does not make it one.

You do know that the vest we wear in combat don't protect against 5.56 or 7.62 NATO rounds either?

Nothing a regular LEO has can protect them from any type of high velocity round. No matter if it's from a FN 5.7, LWRC REPR 5.56 or a .17 HMR.

Sadly, just another step toward a national police force, answerable to a single leader.

Well I know many mothers that want a gun in their house to protect themselves and their children. I completely understand why people feel safer. But these AKs are making the very people that are supposed to be protecting us unsafe and I know that criminals will find away to get guns but assault weapons badly reduces a cops chances to protect you or themselves. And for those of you calling me an idiot, almost 80% of Americans want bans on these types of weapons so maybe it is you who is out of step.

Often get into discussions about the next presidential election with guys at my weekly bourre' game. Not really thrilled with the choices we will have. Some have even said they don't see a reason to vote this year. I argue that's not the approach we should take. I will vote and I will vote for anyone running against Clinton, no matter whom that is. I'm more worried about what a restructured Supreme Court might do than what the next president may do.

No more politics from me today. Sad that this tragedy turned into a political discourse. Think I'll go from here to saying prayers for those affected.

    Stay safe guys.

Who told you that number? The media? Don't make sht up and it's AR's not AK's...if you want to argue a point at least do it intelligently.

Breaux66, Could you specially identity the weapons you think are assault rifles.

Guns to criminals will always be available legal or otherwise.

Guns in the second amendment were never for hunting. Are you demanding repealing the second amendment?

You know cops have AR's and you know criminals can get them too. Yet, they need to be banned?

An ambush is just that. The left and the media has declared open season on LEO, all in the environment of the rampaging ISIS death cult, our impotent POTUS and useless Congress. Let's face it. The omnipresent criminal element feels emboldened by the enabling socialists running the country.

True assault weapons are already illegal. The AR is semi-automatic. If law-makers ban those, the criminals will continue to have them. Those criminals and terrorists and thugs killing innocent people are already breaking the law. Does anyone think ANY gun law would be obeyed by a criminal/terrorist/thug seeking to do harm?

France terrorist had a truck kill lots of people. Do we need to ban trucks?

Time to start blaming the person commiting the atrocity, not the weapon of choice.

Whether it's an AR15 or an AK47, who cares, only cops and military should own them. If you are hunting with one, you are a pathetic shooter.

If you outlaw them they become more valuable to criminals and a source of income...the guns are not the problem.

According to several reports, this wasn't an ambush. Rather it was a shootout between two groups, and the police got caught up in the crossfire. Now whether they shot at police because of last week, that's entirely possible.

No way. I'm watching WBRZ out of Baton Rouge that hasn't even been mentioned. These cops showed up at this particular convenience store every Sunday because they got free beverages. Looks like it could have been a set up. If you are correct I certainly will apologize to you, but I don't see it.
