    "Long Offers an Intriguing Look
Twenty-three year old Shawn Long was both the oldest and biggest prospect invited to Monday's workout. The Louisiana product racked up some pretty heady accomplishments in college. He finished his four-year career with the Ragin' Cajuns ranked first in Sun Belt conference history in total rebounds, and second in points scored and shots blocked.

"I think the biggest thing was, just learning my strength and my weaknesses," Long said. "Once I got a good feel for what that was, the rest followed. Just being accountable for things on the court, I think that's paid off for me a lot the last few years."

During the segment of Monday's session that the media was permitted to watch, Long didn't hold back on heaving a few three-point tries. The 6'9" tall, 245-pound big man shot 34.1 percent from outside the arc as a collegian.

"I don't mind mixing it up down low, as well as stretching it out on the floor," said Long, who played at Louisiana with current Orlando Magic point guard Elfrid Payton.

"He's got really good size," Sixers Vice President of Player Personnel Marc Eversley said of Long. "I'd call him a stretch five or a stretch four. He's got the ability to step out and make a shot. The other thing he does well is he can take you off the dribble. Not sure if you saw it, but he utilized the pump fake pretty well. He's got great size, and he can step out and make a shot."

Monday was Long's first workout with an NBA team."
I'm stoked about him getting some workout film out there. But my god, I hope he doesn't end up playing for the sixers.

    Long shows Sixers his range

"Shawn Long proved Monday that he has an NBA skill set.

The Louisiana-Lafayette post player kept making buckets during his 76ers' pre-draft workout at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.

"I call him a stretch five, stretch four," Sixers vice president of player personnel Marc Eversley said of the 6-foot-9, 245-pounder. "He has the ability to go out make a shot.

"The other thing that he does well is that he can take you off the dribble. He utilizes a pump fake well."

He has a workout set up with Milwaukee on Wednesday, followed by one with Denver (Saturday), Houston (Monday), Dallas (May 24), Los Angeles Lakers (May 31), Utah (June 1), Washington (June 6) and Boston (June 9).
I'm ignorant to the process, but does his agent reach out and get these workouts setup, or do the teams themselves express interest and bring the player in?

The Sixers was my team growing up, with Dr J, Andrew Toney, Daryl Dawkins, Caldwell Jones and Bibby. I am not sure how I would feel about him going to the Sixers. Shawn said at the basketball banquet that he would like to play for the Pelicans so the people that supported him could come see him. I am sure he will be happy anywhere he gets a roster spot, I know I will be.

I am not really sure, but I would assume it is a combination of both and along with Coach Marlin reaching out to teams.

would be awesome if he is on sixers and out performs the number one pick teammate. would the media still be able to ignore his stats if that happened?

That can't happen. They're playing the same position. No way does Simmons not get all the minutes he wants.

76ers is the perfect places for Simmons. He will paid a boat load of money, will not have to perform, and no one will care.

I completely forgot about his classes. That is the one thing that I hate the most about the 1 and done players. 1 and done is often referred to as 1 year and done. In reality its 1 semester and done.

We have to be honest with ourselves. When we were 18/19 years old & about to make millions in a few months, would we go to class when it did not matter? At 18/19, I didnt go to class when it mattered.

Spring semester is pretty pointless for a 1 and done athlete.

granted it isn't the ncaa's rule, but they could tighten the reigns on the academics. unfortunatley even retroactively forfeiting games doesn't really make anyone care, not sure what they could do. at least players should have to pay back the taxpayers for the room and board and cost of attendance on a pro-rated amount, not that it would really amount to much, but a show of principle.

  18. UL Basketball 'I'm just hoping for the best'

UL Hopefully Shawn Long signed up for frequent-flyer miles.

The former Louisiana big man conducted private workouts with half of the NBA's 30 franchises, many of which were backloaded into the final few weeks before Thursday's NBA draft...

I hope Shawn gets drafted. I'm impressed with the circuit he's making with so many teams. It's a little puzzling to me how he's able to shed weight and get in better condition than he was during his basketball seasons with us.

    Circuit food is mostly cosmetic.
