The real logic is there are four decent teams and two are FCS move ups. We (fans)are trying to get to little higher ground. The rest of SBC teams are rated below 100 on a regular basis. That's the company you like? I know baseball is your favorite sport, but it is garnish in college sports.
Its about aspirations and destinations, and avoiding desperation of separation.
BTW, Coastal is ranked #1 in the FCS this week.
Neither UL, nor any of the other 4, fit in a move-up/transition league like the SBC or CUSA [which, in my opinion is better than the Sun Belt, but still a move up/transition league].
The UL adminstration, both on Rhinehart and in Martin Hall, have shown precious little interest in bettering our conference affiliation, and in fact, have been very clear in their actions that they are very happy to remain here.
It's been the same old "damn....we're a bunch of FCS callups." I get the fact just about everyone I know would rather be in a different league. But using our additions as a reason the SBC sucks is not only misguided...it's untrue.
I think the only thing that remains to be seen is whether their attendance matches their new capacity when all the renovations are complete.
I have long been a believer in the long range conference building plan. Additions to your conference should add value and stability to your league or bring potential to do so. Not in terms of TV contracts, which are made of fairy dust as we soon shall see in CUSA, but in terms of Bowl potential, NCAA tourney revenue potential, fanbase, and budget soundness. They don't have to have everything but if they have at least 2 of these, they are on the right track.
You build a conference based on these pillars, and it can withstand the winds of change. You build one based on fairy dust, and you see what has happened.
The last 3 additions have been the best additions to the league since the league was founded.
FCS+ boomer......massey ratings don't matter
CUSA IS perceived as the better Conference.....
