I give the effort a 10 for intent, a 10 for motivation and a zero for branding.

Unless of course your branding goal is Lafayette, then I give it a 20 on a scale of 1 to 10.
I can assure you the name battle won't be won or lost on a football helmet.

But that was a bike...which in no way can be construed as contributing to our ongoing name struggle.

    Thanks, I agree.

"Lafayette being Lafayette" was the main point in both sentences.

The first nothing to do with the occurrence, the second everything to do with the recovery.

The coming together may take different forms from Sandy Hook, to Columbine to Lafayette, but the community gelling has been pretty much universal.

I'm not going to provide links I'd rather appreciate "Lafayette being Lafayette"

Nobody ever said the word Lafayette would be written. They said it would be the State with the Flag incased in it. Never said it would say Lafayette. Just putting that out there.

Since the thread has already been derailed.

If the movie theater wants to come back strong, some will stay away, they should call Coach Hud and invite the football team when they open backup. Who would make a better spokesman for the theater, university or city. Imagine the football team going into the theater showing support for our city and Coach Hud on national TV letting everyone know that we will not back down to terror, whether it is home grown or international. I have a feeling the Pentagon would call him to be their spokesman.

I don't think the "National media" will say anything like that. I just think that it will be one more instance where Lafayette is tied to Louisiana as far as UL goes. We can all be proud of how Lafayette came together as a community after such a horrible tragedy, but that doesn't mean we should shoot ourselves in the foot in the ongoing struggle to establish "Louisiana" as our brand.

Please stop, step back, take a breathe and reflect. And then maybe think about what you just posted.

Seriously?! Have we become that overly sensitive and politically correct?

Going to have to change a lot of common sports phrases in basketball, golf, baseball, football, etc. if people are going to be so easily upset.

Are you saying you won't be able to just grab your balls and go play with them?

Well that is a good point, I guess I was influenced by driving through Lafayette 6 times a day.

Influenced enough that "Lafayette Strong" is what I pictured on the Helmet.

I was thinking after the first couple game announcers would quit mentioning it but viewers would see it every play and have little memory of the background story.

This thread has some truly cringe worthy responses.

The branding will not take a hit. I would be willing to be that any time the stickers will draw attention this season, the commentators will be discussing the tragedy and not the University's naming issue. If anything, it will garner a positive review for the University and just how strong and supportive this community is.

I guess the saying is true though, no good deed goes unpunished.

    Hammer,
Come on. Two people of our community were slain in a senseless act. The football team chooses to honor them and this thread ends up as a discussion of how it affects our branding.
I think the whole name thing should take a back seat in this instance.
    Just my opinion.
Sorry if I came off as being overly sensitive and politically correct.
