Default OT: CUSA Commish Stepping Down

Banowsky stepping down as CUSA commish to become Executive Director of College football playoff foundation. Wonder how this will effect the UAB decision as he was one of their biggest proponents?

None. But he was wanting 16 teams and couldn't sell that. He's probably making a smart move. Maybe Benson can get the gig and kill that conference.

I don't think it's a far stretch to suggest Benson will apply for the gig for the same reasons we want in CUSA. There is more prestige and stability in CUSA than in the Belt. And he can extradite himself from the middle of the ____ing contest between UL and ulmost.

    Default CUSA commissioner Banowsky

For what its worth, CUSA just announced that its commissioner is stepping down to take a new job. Might this be the break we've needed?

Not really...he was the only one advocating to go to 16 teams. Seems like he got tired of swimming upstream.

Yeah. I think he sees the writing on the wall as far as FBS football goes. He's leaving to become the Director of the College Football Playoff Foundation. A case of if you can't fight em, join em.

Actually, it's the perfect we (S-BC) need. Seeing how CUSA has effectively raided the conference lately, it will raid it again and hire Benson.

And with our luck, that will be the time UL is accepted into CUSA.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Benson was hired for the C-USA gig. The Sun Belt would just replace him with a new guy that everyone will hate. People give conference commissioners way too much credit. The commissioner of the SEC is always going to look like a genius and the commissioner of the Sun Belt is always going to look like a dope. This conference doesn't suck because of Benson, it sucks becuase of all the crappy schools in it.

Benson sucks regardless of the schools. Not only incompetent but used his position to get his daughter a media position for conference games.

I can see Benson getting the gig, and then not letting us in.

Benson was one reason so many wanted to leave the WAC for MWC

It sucks more due to perception than anything. It's not nearly as bad as most perceive it to be.

    Perception equals reality!

I agree completely. Replacing FIU and FAU with App St and GA Southern was an upgrade to the SBC no matter how you look at it.

Check out this article on Western KY regarding Banowsky's resignation (hope the link works)

WKU's Stewart, Ransdell stunned by Banowsky's exit

Of particular interest is the following quote regarding how WKU got into CUSA:

"Ransdell said Banowsky's exit was "not on my radar," despite the two's friendship going back to Ransdell's time as the Sun Belt Conference representative on the BCS Oversight Committee.
That friendship "served us at WKU well" when the Hilltoppers began the journey of joining C-USA, Ransdell said, a process that came to fruition on July 1, 2014. Stewart called Banowsky an "advocate" for WKU's inclusion in the conference and suggested the general public may not know how close WKU was to not gaining membership if not for Banowsky's support."

Building relationships with conference commissioners and Presidents and AD's of member schools of conferences you want to be in helps you get in them. Shocking! Who knew?

It seems neither our President nor our AD thought it was important.
