Funny thing is we still out recruit most everyone. Its just getting tougher and tougher.

Well, winning tends to help you out in whatever conference you are in.

---Z, it can work both ways in that we can point to our facilities, crowds, culture, wins and Bowl successes

But you are right on the money as Tulane, Tech, S Miss, Houston, Rice, etc come by and a kid hears it from all these numbers of school---the same thing "CONFERENCE"---Oh and the P5s add to the rhetoric!

    We'll see.
The new more accurate study found, even with the meager support UAB has, they are already a plus with football. Any improvement wifi be a plus.

Southeastern was in the Gulf Star Conference in 1985 when it dumped football. Not sure who they were affiliated with for 86-90

Southeastern was in the TAAC (Atlantic Sun) conference from 91-97 (non football), joined the Southland for non-football in 1997, was independent for football in 2003-2004, then for football in 2005

That was a bogus study to counteract the study that buried the program. It helped facilitate the most recent study that still said an investment had to be made. The program did not make money. Texas makes money. LSUA&M@BR makes money. Michigan makes money. UAB does not make money. Not a dime.

Football is going to make just about any program money. People donate money to athletic programs because of football, the most popular sport in the country.

The reason athletic programs as a whole generally do not make money is because the revenues from women's sports and Spring sports are typically budget eaters. We are lucky our baseball and softball programs get the amount of attendance and financial support from fans that they do.

Don't forget the subsidies these programs get. You can't call that making money either.

Advertising has never made money for any company.

If you want to thrive in business you better advertise.

City of Birmingham is already questioning the size of it's 'support' for UAB ($500K per year for 5 years). How many other pledges out there might reconsider how much they can give to UAB?

Could be a number of them. If you listened to the press conference, they were told there will be no money from the state. It will take at least four years before UAB could possibly field a team for FBS play, adding scholarships to reach 85 in that time table. The first few years, they would be playing Prep Schools, Junior Colleges and NAIA programs. In addition to that, once they reach the requirements for the FBS, then they will have to figure out how to pay for the cost of attendance. Considering our football operations cost was about $7.5 mil, they will need more then $10 mil to restart their football program, while receiving no share of the playoff money. This is not a done by a long shot, especially with the C-USA TV contract coming up in 2016. Restarting UAB's football program could be done before it ever begins.

So you're saying there's no subsidy from the school or state? It has to be 100% self sufficient? That would be impossible.

Today ,on College Sports, Mark Ingram the UAB athletic director plans on playing football in 2016, or 17 as an FBS team.

So? They disbanded the team, released all players to leave. I would think a few decent players stayed and may be exempt to play again after a red shirt year in 2015. Twenty-five scholarships limit? How do you field a team with one or two classes. Lots of walk ons I guess.

What about coaches and support staff? I think they kept the head coach in some type of athletic department position but do they still have all the assistants and support staff?

I only got to listen for a couple of minutes. Coaches were not discussed while I was listening.

Besides the political reasons, UAB athletic programs lost $19 Mil over a period of time. The U of A system board has made it clear that will never happen again. How they fund it and how much subsidy will be allowed has yet to be determined. Alabama has a similar program to TOPS and their have the same fiscal concerns as Louisiana.
