Default 3g Connection At The Swamp ?

Dude sitting next to me had no problem with his iPhone. I had no luck whatsoever.

All I wanted was some scores since the PA guy never gives any. This has to be one of the few stadium PA's that doesn't update us on some scores around the nation.

Anyway, could anyone else connect their iPhone last night? Every time? Anytime at the swamp?

In the red zone about midway down, I couldn't get edge much less 3G. I have an iPhone. My sister has a pantech matrix, and she didn't have any data network service either.

the problem isn't the phone, it's the network.

My verizon blackberry always works in the swamp. I noticed a lot of people with at&t have trouble getting text, calls, and internet in and around the stadium.

It's the technology... GSM requires 1 channel to have 2 calls [at the same time] CDMA can have up to 18 calls on one channel.

AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM - as do most 3rd world countries...

Sprint and Verizon use CDMA - which can not only connect more calls per channel, but is much, much more stable when it comes to datsa and bandwith...

when 1,000s of people are trying to use a GSM tower designed for dozens... nothing works...

Try to use an AT&T phone at Tiger stadium... it's even worse.
The iPhone is the most innefficient, bandwith intensive mobile device ever, and it's available exclusively on the worst 3G network available.

Yeah made the switch from att to verizon for that reason. I've never had a dropped call or failed call with verizon like it did with att.

I was able to get on-line access with my Blackberry for the K-State and NT games. For the Southern game and last night - FORGET IT.

the old cingular was fairly ubiquitous for voice... outperformed all other networks... didn't really have too bad a drop off when they switched from analog to digital.

But Cingular data was not even 2G... as Blackberries and Windows devices and Palms etc became popular AT&T decided to implement "3g"

It's taking a long to time for them to do this, and dropped calls no signal complaints etc all started with AT&T a few months back when "3G" finally made it to Lafayette almost 2 years after Baton Rouge and New Orleans had it.

When they flipped the switch and all the 3G iPhones trying to work on a 2G netork decided to drop WIFI and work on the cellular GSM network... 3G went down for a month... AT&T had to spend millions of dollars just to make it work again with zero increased capacity.

Lafayette is looked upon as a "money pit" to AT&T and "not worth it" as far as network expansion goes... so yes AT&T coverage is bad often in Lafayette, and there are no plans to improve it.

VZW's recent acquisition of Centenial Wireless [fills a few holes in the network]coupled with the LTE 4G launch in New Orleans next week is a completely different animal.

But yes, my Verizon phone works too well when I'm on the field... I get every call text email etc while trying to take pictures ...
