UL Basketball More Juco Sports in Louisiana?

It looks to me like Juco sports in Louisiana is growing. Maybe in a couple of years you will see juco football & many other sports in the state. BRCC just add a Mens Basketball team which is a good sign. Is South Louisiana Community College in Lafayette next to start a sports program you never know or will LSUE add more sports to the program? Here is a link the paper http://www.2theadvocate.com/sports51951647.html

That link doesn't work. I wouldn't mind if some of the JUCO schools started football programs like they have in Mississippi. It could help UL get some guys that didn't have the grades to go to UL.

JUCO sports might help to strengthen the JUCO system and eliminate the need for many of the 4 year colleges we have that serve no purpose but to use up duplicate funding that would otherwise go to other schools. Make those schools JUCOs or 4 year colleges at best as feeder programs for the larger schools with no graduate programs (McNeese, Northwestern State, Nichols State and Southeastern) and merge a couple of other schools like LA Tech, Grambling and ULM into one school, LA Tech. That would narrow our universities to only a handful instead of the 13 or so we have currently, leaving us only LSU (Baton Rouge), Southern, Louisiana, UNO, and LA Tech under a single governing board having all the graduate programs and professional schools with greater funding for higher academic achievement.

I'm really struggling to grasp any suggestion of streamlining LA's higher ed system through an increased investment to expand and strengthen JUCO sports, will somehow lead to the integration/elimination of already established, albeit unneeded, universities as a whole.

I don't understand the logic behind funding JUCO sports to begin with, so adding more of them just seems like insanity. But, where I come from JUCOs are a foreign concept. We have community colleges that provide some courses to help prepare non-traditional students for the academic demands of real college...as opposed to some veign attempt that allows illiterate athletes to avoid the real world and play two more years of organized ball.

The higher ed system constantly complains about budget cuts and funding for academic programs. Any school that decides to add unsustainable athletic programs should be barred from complaining.
