Thread: Louisiana turns attention to Georgia State

Default Louisiana turns attention to Georgia State

They went winless last season, but gave UL a much-tougher test than perhaps the Ragin' Cajuns were bargaining for at the Georgia Dome ...

These guys run the spread right? I think it was run-heavy, but I could be wrong.. If they do plan on tossing it around, we will lose that game.

If they put in a "pass at will" scheme, they WILL win. We can't stop anybody in the passing game.

They are a passing team. They average 331 yards per game through the air. Their quarter back can sling it, but is prone to turnovers. He's thrown 8 picks thus far.

All the more reason to play press coverage and get after the QB. Our history is to "keep everything in front of us" by giving 10 yard cushions, and the guy will look like Peyton Manning.

considering we came close to losing to them last year and they are improved, i'm just gonna sit back and pray. This is the biggest game yet of HUD"S career here. Lose this one, and UL and TROY will be fighting for the dweller .

Wow, taking a 2 TD lead in the 3rd QTR on the road and holding that lead is almost losing?

I remember watching that game last year. They didn't pull it together until after half time. And compared to how UL was playing in their previous games during the year that game looked rough in comparison, especially considering we were expected at the time to steam roll them.

My prediction for this game is that they come out playing better than we've seen them play all year. Towards the end of the Boise game UL was playing decent and well enough to beat a Ga State. And I think that they continue the strategy at the end of the Boise game of short screen passes to Eli and let him make something happen. And if indeed Eli has been playing battered and bruised and not 100% for a while, hopefully this 2 week break has been enough to let him get back into full form. For Boise Eli had 106 yards receiving on 10 passes and 35 yards on 7 rushes. That is 141 yards with an 8.3 yard/touch avg for the game. And if he managed this against Boise while being "banged up", I think he could easily go over 200 yards for Ga State.

And fun fact set of the day .... in the Boise game Eli accounted for 61% of Bway's passing yards. There were 6 targets, 3 of which were RBs and 2 were TEs. Al Riles was the ONLY WR to catch any passes during the game, for 29 yards on 3 catches. So Bway had only 16.6% of his completion yards go to WRs. And the avg yards/touch by the WRs were less than the avg touch/pass from Eli.

So bottom line ... get Eli healthy and feed him the ball. Have Zo and Eli in the backfield AT ALL TIMES. Alternate feeding both of them the ball with Zo up the middle and Eli on the edges. Running between the tackles should be left for Zo as that isn't Eli's strong point. And have Eli peel out and in the flat and feed him those screen passes and let him make something happen. Next have Bway run the ball when the opportunity presents itself. And I don't mean the 2014 "I'm a special fragile snowflake" Bway running but the 2012 "I need to prove myself" type runs. They do that and they could win without Bway even attempting a pass to a WR.

It was a 1pm kickoff with 14k people in a 71k seat dome. Pretty sure that had a lot to do with the slow start.

    14K??? Says who?

We had many fans at that game and most reported 3-5K max, I believe.

I had started another thread on this topic...here's my post.

If you look at the 4 Gstate games to date, you should be impressed with how they have played so far. Their record is just 1-3 with the only win coming against a good FCS program in Abilene Christian, who beat Troy on the road this year. They did open with 3 home games, but just looking at the stats and the score by quarters, they will be a very tough out for us.

Assuming Gstate play at the same level this Saturday, we will have to be at the top of our game to win. They gave Air Force a really good game (38-48) and were up 14-0 at the half against Washington, before losing big 45-14...due to 4 TO's in the second half. AF, as you probably know beat Boise this weekend 28-14. For me, the stat lines and score by quarters is what jumps out at you. They gave us a really good game last year. Most of their losses last year were very close games.

These are facts about the game (correct or not). Two teams met and played under the exact conditions. Why would you grant us the "slow start" excuse and not them?

Why can't this forum discuss reality and not constantly blur things with sugar coated wishful thinking?

We are highly likely to have a battle on our hands this weekend. Georgia State is playing well... and we are not. That is pure reality. It doesn't have anything to do with what I want or hope to have happen. I'll be there. I'll see what I see.

Rick, I'm going to disagree with you on Abilene Christian. Its not a good FCS program, its a program playing its first year in the FCS. The fact that they defeated Troy speaks to how bad they are this season. McNeese and Southeastern will win by at least 20 points over Abilene Christian. Georgia State is improved because of Arbuckle and that is it. They are pretty much the same team as last season in every other area. I watched that game and Georgia State was terrible.

I wouldn't bet on us beating Troy at Troy the way we are playing now. So, them going to Troy and winning speaks for itself, in my eyes.

GState has some good receivers and a good QB. You don't need much more than that to give us all the trouble we can handle. They played us tough last year too. They are playing well now, we are not playing well now, so we'll have our work cut out for us this Saturday.

Well, every game we play in the Sun Belt will not be easy this season. But lets not jump off the cliff yet.

---Well my prediction was 7-5 with a worried 6-6

Some reasons for the negative were losing the glue of the offense in Huval along with Sturgent

Didn't realize until the pro cuts how good our 2 TEs from last year were

Also I thought that Nixon had become the real deal and could really get some playing time like against Tulane

-On Defense we lost our best player in Anderson and we brought back the same philosophy which doesn't seem to be our best option

What really hurt us were the guys lost that left the team and the guys that didn't make it!!! Thought we would lose to OM and BS but even though my fears were of Tech and their great transfers and recruits ability, I fell for the projections on the board!!! Come on 7-5 and a bowl!!!

The tight ends that we under utilized???
