  4. UL Softball LAdy Cajuns create another All American

UL - ouisiana Ragin' Cajuns centerfielder Karli Hubbard picked up another accolade on the year as she was named third team All-American on Wednesday afternoon by the National Fastpitch Coaches' Association (NFCA).

In Lady Cajuns' softball history, twenty different student-athletes, including Hubbard, have combined to give Louisiana its 37 All-American awards. Hubbard becomes the ninth All-American under co-head coaches Stefni and Michael Lotief – nine seasons. The Ragin' Cajuns have had at least one player selected as an All-American in 18 of the last 21 seasons (1989-2009).

Hubbard, the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, was one of the most consistent hitters in the country, ranking in the NCAA in batting average, toughest to strikeout and on-base percentage throughout the year. Hubbard led the Cajuns in batting average, runs scored, hits, triples, sacrifice bunts, total plate appearances, at bats, games played and games started, and she also ranked in the Cajuns' top five in eight other categories.

The Pac 10 and SEC dominated selections, with Women's College World Series No. 1 seed Florida leading all teams with five players on one of the three teams. All eight schools competing in the Series, which starts Thursday in Oklahoma City, earned at least two All-American nods, while a total of 19 honorees will compete in this week's championship.

I read an article in today's Advocate about the LSU player and UL's Hubbard both making 3rd team All American. Interestingly, they said it was LSU's 12th All American and UL's 9th All American under the Lotiefs. No mention that it was UL's 37th softball All American. Seemed to want to emphasize that LSU's 12th surpassed UL's 9th, but would not give us credit for the 37th (even though the other 28 All Americans were under Girouard).
