    Default Whoops! Softball spoiler

Farmer was asked on the softball broadcast about the new softball facility...guess we can cancel that press conference! 3k seats, 1500 of them covered, new locker rooms, new coaches' offices, "the whole deal". Farmer's right - the ladies deserve it! It's going to be really exciting to be a cajuns fan really soon!

If performance creates reward, the Lady Cajuns deserve to be all decked out.

From the interview, I got the impression it is going to be brand new. Farmer referred to the "new stadium" not stadium renovations.

I believe the "new" softball stadium will be at the site of the current park.

There is not much there to renovate.

It's going to have to be new.

Yep, plenty of room to build a very nice stadium. We've been piece mealing bleachers for much too long for a program of this caliber.

BTW - Second game is currently 5-0.

No offense to the other fine sports at ULL, but its about time the one consistently winning and only nationally ranked and respected athletics program gets its dues. The softball team is without a doubt the pride of ULL athletics, and its good to see they are finally recognizing that

No offense to softball, I enjoy watching the games when I can make it there but softball as the pride of our athletics is sort of embarrassing.

Without addressing the fact softball is the only program anyone expects to be over .500, it's also hands down the most fun sporting event to attend at the school. From a financial standpoint, aside from the fact the relatively inexpensive cost for a softball park, I'd imagine it would also be profitable when factoring in the $$ that presents itself due to rentals for high school tourneys and more importantly Regional and Super Regional bids.

When I attended UConn, Polo and Women's BBall was the "pride" of the athletic department. Pitiful? yes, but every mansion needs to start with a sturdy foundation.

Having a program as good as our Softball program should NEVER be an embarassment to a fan. The programs who fail to play up to softball's standard are the ones to be embarassed about.

Being embarrassed says more about the fan than anything else. We've been to the NCAA tournament 17 of 18 years. 5 of those resulted in trips to the college world series. 1 of those resulted in a 3re place finish. 1 of those resulted in our embarrassment beating the number 1 team in the country on the sport's biggest stage. While it's true that this should be the aspiration of all of our programs, I can't say I'm embarrassed.

I'm not saying our softball team is an embarrassment at all. It was more a statement about the rest of our athletic programs. Our softball team is the only sport that hasn't embarrassed me over years. Do you get what I'm trying to say?

    Hear! Hear!

There are 250+ NCAA Division 1 Softball Programs in the USA. Our softball program is consistently rated in the top 10% of those. That is NOT an embarrassment!

I can't wait for softball and baseball to be rewarded with (hopefully) the first-class facilities they've earned as our most consistently successful ambassadors to the rest of the NCAA.

That said, does anybody know - or can venture a guess - as to how long construction will take? I'm not talking so much about when it will start. I know that's likely a couple years down the road. But will the new Lamson, for example, be started and finished in one offseason? Or will there be some goofy plan in place akin to new NFL stadiums being built where the ladies will have to play at another site for a season while waiting for the park to be built?

Just curious. I know there probably aren't any answers available for that. But if I had to list the 5 projects I'm most excited about, they'd be New Lamson, New Tigue, New athletic dorms, Rail system, and Cajun Field upgrades, so I look forward to finding out any and all new information on these projects.

Couldn't agree more. It's amazing what these two programs have accomplished on a shoestring budget. Providing a better venue for both can only enhance their ability to attract top notch student-athletes and continue winning at a national level (NCAA tourn/World Series participation, etc). We already have a solid tradition in these two programs, so this can only help make it even better!

Anyone have any information on the new baseball facility? Haven't heard anything (and the info prior to that was minimal) since the big donor lost much or all of the promised donation in the Stanford Financial Group scandal.

I heard that the work will be done and completed in this off season.
