Thread: Tracking the Preaux Career of Elfrid Payton

  1. Default Elfrid Payton likes what he sees in Orlando

Since the draft, Payton has been through a gantlet of news conferences, team meetings and interviews. He said he reports to the Magic on Tuesday and after that, he’ll be off to a series of summer league games in Orlando.

So far, the Magic has made a favorable impression, the John Ehret High product said.

EP is wasting no time, he is moving forward to lead, and win. Rookies holding out for a few scrapes more of this or that is counterproductive, their pay is pretty much set.

His thank you was absolutely awesome. Too many fans missed his time here, missed one of the best players to ever set foot here. Unfortunately circumstances kept me home this season, but I was in total awe in his first two years.

I think I developed a man crush on the sixth man play vs WKU, but I watched that on television.

Don't know what he signed for, but safe to say he went from college student to multi-millionaire in a few short weeks. And that is great for he and his family.

with this set scale for rookies, what is the deal, or the incentive with the top 13 picks. I kept hearing references like "as long as he stays in top 13, he'll get........."
Besides scale difference, what's the difference in pick 10 and say pick 20?

So glad EP ended his holdout. Was really getting worried the Magic would have to do without a PG this season, since they seem to have cut all their other ones.

This is getting more awesome by the day! Geaux Elfrid! Congrats, young man, stay level headed, and make Damn sure whom ever you entrust with your money it is someone you have trusted for a very long time that you knew prior to any of this Preaux stuff!

Save your money until, invest it wisely, not in all these NEW friends that will pop up! Take care of your parents, set up your siblings an educational type account, keep the carrot out in front of them, NO sitting on their perverbial butts!

---So let's play --What to do with EP's money--say he gets 3 mill-he gets to keep 2 mill

But does he get paid by the week, month , or bonuses

So he is Very Young--put money in Real Estate (home)---Stock (growth)---Muni Bonds (no tax)---BTW Florida has no state income tax---Does he have a girlfriend??? Never have seen him with a lady!! Don't spend bucks on her---Get a nice not fancy auto!!! Give UL some love when referring to your college and also some bucks---Did you graduate?? If not getter done!!!

I'm not sure what the deal is as far as top 13. Top 14 is lottery in title only basically.

Here's a good article about the rookie contracts. Players can take anywhere from 80% to 120% of the number listed. Most get 120%.

Payton was picked 10th overall, and that’s what his salary slot is, even though he was traded to the Magic on draft night.

His salaries will be as follows:

    • For 2014-15, his salary is guaranteed at $2,397,840.
    • For 2015-16, his salary is guaranteed at $2,505,720.
    • For 2016-17, the Magic will have a team option of $2,613,600.
    • For 2017-18, the Magic will have a team option of $3,332,340.

The Magic can submit a qualifying offer to Payton for the 2018-19 season for $4,538,647. If Payton were to decline the offer, he would become a restricted free agent, which would give the Magic the right to match any offer sheet Payton might sign with another team.

Sounds like you're trying to audit EP before his first check clears!

Dude is making money! Bottom line.
