No it's not fair. For LSU to get 125% more funding than 8 Universities. It just shows how much UL has done academically with so little. I can't speak for any of the other Universities because I frankly don't know much about them on the academic side. But with our research park, Computer Science program, Engineering program, and Nursing program being as good as they are with the kind of funding they receive, it shows that the future is bright and maybe the state will see the progress and up our bucks a little bit.

No, of course not. That has been at the root of much of our "issues" with the state flagship school. They call it jealousy, we call it unfair.

I got bored and I just happened to look at the UL-System website to get these numbers. I google the search and it appeared on the LSU website. If I had to guess it would include LSU med and law etc., but not counting UNO LSUA, LSUS, and LSUE.

That said, the UL system is bloated. Can we justify 8 four year institutions given in the system given the state's population?

On top of that, can we justify the 5 schools in the LSU system as well? (even if LSUS, LSUE and LSUA are two year schools)

And if that weren't enough, can we also justify the Southern system?

That's an awful lot of schools and and awful lot of redundancy for a state with a shrinking population.

Yep, but good luck changing anything. Each system and each college has their very vocal constituency. I think it would be easier to overturn the last presidential election than to change anything in our higher education system. BTW, LSUA has been made a 4 year school.

There is no changing the state's position on the cast system and the funding. But, there are differences in each of the UL system schools by virtue of their location. UL (in Lafayette) is situated pretty well. There is a benefit to this system for UL. When all of your siblings are starving (ignore the gold-ladened fat slob in the corner), but you have the biggest gun on the most abundant land, you turn that in your favor. That is the big differentiator for UL, and as soon as we apply that to UL football, in a bigger way... you will not believe the rewards reaped. It seems silly to some to use college football as your engine of economic prosperity... but I know what I am talking about... in Lafayette. It will work... it takes dedicated leadership.

This is the problem.

The people of this state have decided that socialism is better than the free market. Protectionism is better than competition.

There was a once in a lifetime chance to change the downward direction of the state after Katrina/Rita. We did nothing.

We should have overhauled the state's bloated and inefficient healthcare system and closed several universities. RESPONSIBLE people would have done that.

Instead, we are ruled(not governed) by petty, ignorant, selfish, insecure morons who keep getting sent to BR cause that's who the people of this state want.

So, this state deserves everything that happens to it on its descent into oblivion.....which is why I would be typing this from San Marcos, TX if my wife would just say the word.

I'm sick of this state.
