    Default Who used GEAUX first?

In wake of the recent news of us trademarking Geaux Cajuns, many LSU fans have said we stole this from them. Does anyone know who first used the term?

Anyone east of the Mississippi River claiming they used "geaux" first is hilarious.

We should have actually tried to trademark GEAUX as a stand lone as well as GEAUX CAJUNS.

Baton Rouge would have cared if we tried to do this...

Baton Rouge didn't want anything to do with anything Cajun until it became popular. Then, like Al Gore, it seems they invented it.

We had "Geaux Cajuns" signs when I was in school back in the 1970's!

The time gap between fans adopting a phrase and a university picking it up can be large, often approaching a decade or more. Pre internet things like this traveled slowly up the chain of command.

I have visual documentation of Geaux Cajuns from the mid seventies.

My guess is it began long before.

Pretty much any LSU fan claiming to have started any tradition of the Cajun culture is insulting and humorous.

Seriously, let's be real for just a second. LSU gained a few fans from the Acadiana area once I-10 was complete across the basin making the journey to Baton Rouge easier in 1973. Then with the Death Penalty in the same year drove away fans. Then having Dr Authement dead set against a successful athletic program and you have what we see today. 30+ years of should be Cajun fans turned Tiger fans screaming know your place.

Give us 1 more decade of success similar to what we have had for the past three years and we will be the clear cut number 2. Will we ever be LSU no, not even close. Can we be 50% of what LSU is when it comes to fan support and monetary support? You bet your ___ we can. That would put us around $50 million annually and 40-50k in attendance for football. That is only a 1700 person/game increase over the next 10 years. That is pretty easy to do as long as we strengthen the bond with our own student body and local community.

UL has ongoing "who first" identity battles raging across the country.

From "LA" on the west coast, "Geaux" at home, to "The Swamp" on the east coast.

    Louisiana really is "America's" team.
