Default Canon at the Football Games

If you were at the home opener against Nicholls, you probably noticed that we had a cannon at the game. The first time they shot it during pregame, it was AWESOME, and then every time they shot it afterwards (for each of the 10 touchdowns we scored), it was...lackluster at best. A friend found out the reason it rocked for the first shot and was lacking the rest of the time is they only used the 75mm round for kickoff due to a lack in supply, and used weaker caliber blanks the rest of the time. Apparently, the ROTC is also paying for this themselves. The weaker rounds are all they can find at the moment, so unless the 75mm rounds become available for them to use, they plan to continue using the good ones for kickoff and the weaker ones for touchdowns. Does anyone have any connections, maybe in the military or otherwise, and can get 75mm blanks? I know this is pretty small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, but the cannon is something that EVERYBODY in the stadium notices, and the difference between the 75mm round for kickoff and the ones used thereafter is embarrassingly bad.

Didn't care to much for the cannon. I did like hearing the equipment trucks horn as I was walking out. I think the should just use that after every touchdown. Kinda like when fenroy would do the train thing after his TDs. Plus it kinda looked like Optimus Prime sitting up there.

We joked about that too; however, it would be a pretty cool alternative to the canon to have an 18-wheeler going nuts on the horn after a TD.

    "Canon at the Football Games"

As opposed to "No Rules Football" isn't that Rugby?

    ps wasn't the cannon great?

I hate to keep milking it but I loved the snap-crackle-pop offense vs Nicholls.

    Only at the Swamp.

Yeah forget the cannon. The big truck sounding the horn would be awsome.

    Horns are cheap

All you need is a battery and something to mount the horn to.

You don't need no stinkin truck.

Here is my canon of the day: Say no to fake truck noises.

Was it stated that they couldn't afford it or was it stated that there was a lack of supply?

Come on guys, can't we all get along? Use a horn like they do at ice hockey games. Blast it through a load system. That will get everyone's attention........

First I was told it was a cost issue, then I was later told it was a supply issue, so frankly, it could be either or possibly both at this point.

Lets compromise, use the cannon at the start of the game and end of each quarter. We use the Optimus prime horn after each touchdown.

There might be a good way to include the cannon... but I wouldn't like it to end the quarters. It's one thing to have a cannon go off for a score when the whole place is yelling and screaming... but to have it go off at no particularly exciting part of the game... would be annoying.

As much as I do think the cannon is cool... I think we should just switch to the horn. When we do our armed forces appreciation day game, we should use the cannon. Otherwise, just the horn.

10 touchdown days should be cannonized.

Let's remember that we racked up 70+ points and the cannon was used way more than it will be used on a regular basis going forward. I don't care for the cannon just because it looks way out of place and it's nothing that is creative.
